It’s here!! Our annual, limited edition Chica Bean Coffee roast! Every year, our sixth grade class has the opportunity to complete an internship style experience with chicabeancafe. They learn the entire process of creating coffee products from farm to bag. How do they learn all this? By doing it themselves! And by the end, they’ve created something truly special!

Independence Day celebrations are in full swing Hogar Miguel Magone Guatemala!

The clothes you see the girls wearing is traditional Guatemalan clothing, ropa típica. It is a beautiful expression of culture, identity, and heritage. Many Indigenous communities have their own distinctive textiles, colors, patterns, and designs, with garments often woven by hand and passed down through generations. From the colorful huipiles worn by women to the traditional cortes and woven accessories, each piece can reflect the community and history of the person wearing it.

Sights of September! 🩵🤍

In the Land of Eternal Spring, it can sometimes be hard to feel time passing. There is no big change in temperature, no dramatic shift in the natural beauty, but when September arrives, you know it!

Guatemala celebrates Independence Day on September 15th, and the pride people have for their country and culture becomes especially evident this time of year. September is a month-long celebration filled with more blue and white than you can imagine, the sounds of fireworks echoing through the streets, colorful parades, delicious food, and countless activities happening throughout schools and the greater Hope community.

These are the moments that become lifelong memories, filled with joy, community, culture, and pride. Your kindness and generosity help make these fun, meaningful, and pride-filled memories possible. Thank you for being part of the Hope community! 🥑🇬🇹

As another round of summer group trips comes to an end, we are delighted to share some special moments and words from our new friend, Stella! She joined us in July with her congregation, Immanuel UCC. Thank you to everyone who traveled with us and supported their trip!

“For the IUCC mission trip team, this trip was deeply rooted in connection. We were able to connect with elders and children from the local village, the children and staff at the Hogar, and the students and teachers at Hope Academy. From dancing with the elders to live marimba music and helping write cards to sponsors, to watching the World Cup and playing soccer with the children, our team made so many memories. At Hope Academy, we were able to be both students and teachers which was really special. The students sang us songs, put on plays, and showed us their school work. Then, some members of our team taught lessons on exercise, music, the environment, and yoga! We absolutely loved getting to interact with the girls and play with them during free time.

For me personally, the highlight of my trip was being able to use my Spanish skills to communicate with everyone I met, and build deeper connections. I was also amazed by how welcoming everyone was. When we arrived at the orphanage and Hope Academy, we were always greeted with hugs and love. I am so grateful I was able to travel to Guatemala with Hope Academy and Hogar Miguel Magone. I can’t wait to come back!”
