The frequency of struck-by-vehicle incidents and injuries is escalating and so is the number of fire apparatus struck while blocking at incident scenes. Here’s another example of the kind of “D” drivers on the road these days. Heads on a swivel, watch your back, and follow your procedures and guidance for roadway incidents. We need to do a better job of advance warning to get driver’s attention before they get close to our blocking vehicles and emergency personnel working the scene. This problem is not going away any time soon. We are dealing with a very different type of driver these days. Make sure your personnel know how to protect an incident scenes from “D” drivers. Lots of free roadway incident scene safety & survival training (CAPCE Certified) is available online at https://www.rsln.org
