Sarah Towle is bringing her award-winning exposé of the U.S. immigration system Crossing
the Line: Finding America in the Borderlands to Harrisburg PA region on Wednesday, October
30, just in time for the 2024 election. The day will include three events of witness and learning
sponsored in part by host church Grace United Methodist Church, 216 State Street,
Harrisburg.
• Author Sarah Towle will address the issue of immigration, migration and refugees in
the United States, 2-4 pm.
• Silent Vigil on the front steps of the PA Capitol Building, 4-5 pm
• Book Discussion led by Sarah Towle, 6:30 pm. There will be a community soup
supper at 5:30 pm at the Church for those who will participate in the book discussion
(reservations requested)
As with many of the folks highlighted in her book, it was family separation and “kids in cages”
that drove Sarah to bear witness to what the media refers to ad nauseum as “the crisis at the
border.” On discovering the many-headed hydra that is the U.S. immigration system—and the
heroic determination of those caught under its knee—she could never look away
again. Crossing the Line charts Sarah’s journey from outrage to activism to abolition as she
reveals, layer by “broken” layer, the global deterrence to detention to deportation complex that
is failing everyone—save the profiteers and demagogues who benefit from it.
