Become part of Pennsylvania's growing prescribed fire community.

Registration is now open for the next Certified Prescribed Burn Manager (CPBM) Course, taking place October 7-8, 2026, at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in Lancaster County.

The CPBM Program trains and certifies private landowners and contractors to safely plan and conduct prescribed burns on private lands. While anyone can burn their land in Pennsylvania, individuals who complete the certification process are afforded additional liability protections through the state.

This course is an important step toward certification and provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively use prescribed fire as a land management tool.

Participants may also choose to stay for an optional third day (October 9), to work alongside instructors on burn plan development, visit multiple burn units at Middle Creek, and discuss firebreak preparation, wildlife habitat objectives, fire effects, and other practical aspects of prescribed fire implementation.

Registration closes July 31, 2026.
