Patsy is exactly why Victoria's Law is needed in Pennsylvania and why it is appropriate for the Consumer Protection, Utilities and Technology Committee to consider for a vote.

An argument was made in the HB 1816 hearing last week that the bill should be referred back to the House Agriculture Committee because those opposing it say that the focus should be on cracking down on unlicensed breeders or those operating “underground.”

Patsy is from a legal, licensed, inspected Pennsylvania breeder. Her physical state happened in a legal kennel that passes inspection.

The purpose of HB 1816 is to increase transparency between buyer and breeder. Removing the third party pet store seller sends buyers directly to the breeder for them to see for themselves how their animals live and are raised so they can make better choices as Pennsylvania consumers.

The byproduct of the elimination of the pet store outlet for the selling of puppies, kittens, and rabbits, is reduced demand and less animals on the production end of making those baby animals put up for sale in stores.

Seven years ago today, beautiful and brave Victoria lost her battle with Degenerative Myelopathy. She was the face of a movement that continues today. Sadly, many Pennsylvania lawmakers continue to side with those who profit off of pet store sales vs prioritize Pennsylvania consumers and animals.

Pennsylvania residents!!!!
Call to action: please contact your state representatives and ask them to fully support HB 1816 to end the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet stores!!!

This was Victoria SIX years ago today when she was rescued and carried to safety. Victoria's Law STILL lingers without movement. This is something we all feel so passionately about yet the refusal by Pennsylvania to even consider it either means 1. we aren’t loud enough and need more voices to make an impact 2. It doesn’t matter how much we speak up if backdoor decisions are already made to kill the bill 3. Both.

Let’s hope it is option 1 because that is something we ALL do something about and could be the game changer needed to make Victoria’s Law a reality.

Ever wonder why the majority of Pennsylvanians want to see Victoria's Law put up for a fair vote and signed into law? Ellie is why. Mass production of puppies leads to suffering and pet stores who sell puppies are a proven financial outlet for that cruelty.

Will you speak up and make your voice heard? Do it for all of the Ellie’s out there.

On this Puppy Mill Awareness Day, we want to share a story with you about a recent rescue we did with a not so happy ending.

We told you recently that things have been a bit stressful lately and this brief story will give you a bit more insight into why our hearts have been extra heavy.

This was Ellie.

From the time our volunteer picked up Ellie to the time she got to the emergency hospital, she declined rapidly that we needed to say goodbye.

Ellie was born with severe hydrocephalus and went from walking, eating, and standing to barely able to move. Her first five weeks on this Earth were with her mom and siblings with the intention of her being sold like the rest of them until they all rejected her. Her last hours were at least wrapped in love and care.

There was absolutely nothing that could be done to save her or we would have done it. She was actively dying in our arms.

Ellie was here and she was important to us but she never should have been born. Greed demanded that. Those who keep buying puppy mill puppies continue to buy into cruelty. Those who produce puppies for profit keep the cycle going.

Here is the only good news to come from this tragedy…Ellie’s dad was rescued the week before she was picked up at the farm and after educating the breeder, she released her mother this week. As usual, NOT ONE PENNY was paid for the release of any of the dogs and we are happy that her parents are no longer part of the production cycle.

Rest in peace, Ellie. We loved you.

Please support Victoria's Law.

Don’t forget. Victoria's Law was named after a real dog who suffered for years in a puppy mill.

Victoria lived for a decade in a barn pumping out an overwhelming number of puppies. Once she was rescued, so much love and fun needed to be packed into her remaining time with people who loved her.

Most dogs who exist the way Victoria did for so long never get their chance at being rescued. Pennsylvania continues to fail them as the few decision makers turn a blind eye to anything that can reduce puppy mill profits and as a result, reduce animal suffering like Victoria’s Law would do.

Please speak up and show your support for Victoria’s Law in Pennsylvania.
