FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Pennsylvania Off-Highway Vehicle Association (PAOHV) is sharing information from today’s Snowmobile and ATV Advisory Committee meeting in Harrisburg, and specifically information regarding the Catawissa Recreation Area.
According to information presented at the meeting, the southern portion of the recreation area is expected to open to dual sport riders on July 6. Approximately 30 miles of trails are anticipated to be available and will be rated from difficult to expert. The proposed fee structure is $45 for Pennsylvania residents and $65 for non-residents.
PAOHV will continue communicating with DCNR about additional details and looks forward to sharing the agency’s official announcement as it becomes available.
Background
The Pennsylvania Off-Highway Vehicle Association (PAOHV) continues to monitor progress on the Catawissa Recreation Area, a landmark project being developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) within Weiser State Forest.
When completed, the nearly 6,000-acre recreation area will become the first motorized recreation area within Pennsylvania’s state forest system, creating new opportunities for responsible off-highway vehicle recreation while maintaining DCNR’s commitment to conservation and stewardship.
The property, which includes portions of the former Paragon Adventure Park, has long been recognized by off-road enthusiasts as one of Pennsylvania’s premier riding destinations. Since acquiring the property, DCNR has completed a comprehensive master planning process and continues to advance site development, permitting, and infrastructure improvements necessary for future operation.
At this time, the property remains closed to motorized recreation while development activities continue. The area remains open for other permitted state forest uses including hiking, biking, and hunting.
PAOHV appreciates DCNR’s continued investment in expanding recreational opportunities for Pennsylvania residents and visitors. The Catawissa Recreation Area represents an important step toward providing safe, sustainable, and managed riding opportunities while protecting the natural resources that make Pennsylvania special.
As additional updates become available, PAOHV will continue to share information with the off-highway vehicle community and encourage constructive engagement with state agencies and local stakeholders.
PAOHV remains committed to working collaboratively with DCNR, local clubs, municipalities, and recreation partners to support responsible access, rider education, stewardship, and the future growth of motorized recreation opportunities throughout Pennsylvania.
