Whether Dolly Parton knew it or not as she tapped her nails on her guitar and sketched out the lyrics for “9 to 5,” she had composed an anthem for workers’ rights and workplace equality that defined the power of collective bargaining.

She understood the struggle of working-class people and remained empathetic to others no matter how high her star power carried her.

Last week, President Ferritto joined AFSCME members from across Pennsylvania and the country as a delegate to the AFSCME International Convention in Chicago!

Along with conducting the business of the union, delegates elected new International President Patrick Moran and Secretary-Treasurer Nicole Pollard, who were sworn in Friday morning, along with two new International Vice Presidents from Pennsylvania.

President Ferritto joined SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania President, Matthew W Yarnell, and 950 healthcare workers at Mount Nittany Medical Center on the strike line for quality care, good jobs, and safe workplaces.

No healthcare worker ever wants to strike. But with the cost of living skyrocketing in Centre County and multiple, serious incidents of workplace violence and safety, Mount Nittany workers have been pushed to their limit — even as the hospital posted $183 million in profits last year.

Instead of fair wages, Mount Nittany execs chose a $350 million patient tower and intimidation tactics against workers exercising their rights.

This is what’s happening across healthcare: record profits at the top, while the people actually providing care are left to scrape by.

We stand with our siblings at Mount Nittany. If you are in the area, join them on the picket line for their final days!

On behalf of 700,000 working men and women across the Commonwealth, the PA AFL-CIO Executive Council has endorsed 178 candidates in the 2026 General Election, plus a candidate in the House District 12 special election.

These are candidates who understand what matters to working families: fair pay, retirement security, safe workplaces, and strong public schools, to name a few. They’ve shown, time and again, that they stand with the causes our unions fight for every day.

The PA AFL-CIO is proud to endorse leaders who will go to bat for workers and their families across the Commonwealth.

Congratulations to our siblings in IBEW Local 614 who voted this weekend to ratify a new contract with PECO.

The new agreement includes 4% annual raises for field workers in the first four years of the contract and 4.5% in the fifth year. Call center workers will get 3% raises annually throughout the five-year contract. The agreement also includes cash-balance pensions for all workers.

Workers carried out a three day-strike earlier this month as the union and Peco weren’t able to reach a deal in negotiations.
