DRUG TAKE BACK DAY: Hopefully you have seen some of these signs around your community- keep an eye out for them in the days ahead because our next big event is Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA National Drug Take Back Day happening this Saturday, October 24 from 10am-2pm.

is a free event for communities nationwide to properly dispose of old and unneeded medications safely and anonymously. We will be at two locations in Roane County- Kroger in Harriman and Food City in Oliver Springs.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month:

An argument should never end in a funeral.

Yet in 2024, 18 Tennessee women were shot and killed by a husband or intimate acquaintance during an argument.

When threats, abuse, and access to fi****ms intersect, the danger can escalate quickly.

Law enforcement, healthcare providers, domestic violence advocates, and community organizations each have a role in identifying serious risks and connecting people with help.

Coordinated safety planning, appropriate risk assessment, and timely intervention can help protect lives.

No single agency can prevent every tragedy. But when community partners work together, opportunities to intervene don't have to be missed.

Safer communities start with us. 💜

Tennessee Child Health Month (CHM) is a call to all families, educators, health professionals, faith-based and community organizations and all levels of government to help ensure Tennessee’s children are healthy. Tennessee invites all individuals, families, and organizations to positively impact the lives of children and their families by participating in Child Health Month activities each October.

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) recognizes Child Health Month (CHM) throughout the month of October. This annual recognition is a time to celebrate and raise awareness around what Tennessee is doing to promote the health of our most important resource: Tennessee’s Children.

Together, we can ensure that parents/caregivers, teachers, community members, and professionals are equipped with the tools they need to promote health practices and resiliency to improve the health of Tennessee’s children. All children and teens deserve to be as healthy as they can, while also being empowered and inspired to achieve what they desire in life.
