I have been invited to present at this training this year in Knoxville. I presented last year in Franklin. There was a lot of great information being shared.

Registration for our East Tennessee Effective Policing Autism Response is now open. We are thrilled to partner with so many state and regional partners. The venue is the Knoxville Convention Center, 701 Henley Street. Once again, we are happy to have Tanner and Nicci Smith from 'Love on the Spectrum' as our special guests. Register now, as seating is limited!

Many times over the last 21 years, Hunter has missed out on community activities because I never knew how he would react in the environment. (Every day is different). I learned very quickly that it could be very expensive to pay admission for an event and he would not be able to last 15 minutes.

At that point, I began to only go to events that offered a sensory area for those overstimulated. That would give us the opportunity to leave the triggers, but give him a chance to regulate and try again.

Roane County United Way Fair has a sensory tent for those types of situations. Inside the tent, there are noise cancelling earmuffs, a bean bag, dry erase boards, fidgits, small sensory lap quilts and sensory bottles.

I know this information would make a difference for me if I was not sure about bringing my son.

I am so glad others are working to make our community events more inclusive.
