The Wallace Center for Arts & Reconciliation recently hosted a moving evening at the Wallace House celebrating poet Salaam Green and her book, “The Other Revival: Poems & Reckonings.” Set within the quiet and reflective landscape of the Wallace Center, the gathering brought together Wallace Descendants, community members, and invited guests for an evening of poetry, remembrance, and conversation. Salaam Green and Wallace Descendants shared selected poems inspired by the lives, stories, and enduring legacies of Wallace ancestors and descendants, creating a powerful experience rooted in memory, creativity, and community. The event offered space for reflection and connection while honoring the voices and histories that continue to shape the Wallace Center’s work.

This is not a question with a simple or final answer, it is a call to reflection. Cultural institutions hold stories, histories, and truths that have shaped how communities understand themselves and one another. With that comes responsibility: to listen deeply, to tell fuller narratives, and to hold space for histories that have been overlooked, silenced, or simplified.
