Resilient Warrior

Resilient Warrior Our mantra is that we provide “A hand up, not a hand out”.

This term has become somewhat clichéd, none is more appropriate than President John F Kennedy defining it as “doing something towards becoming self-sustaining” – this is our mission.

Dec 23, 2025 Christmas highlights for the Resilient Warriors in Harper, Kansas. Many thanks to our sponsors and supporters to help make our Christmas for the Resilient Warriors a blessing this year. We had tenant/maintenance person volunteer to cook our steaks on a grill donated to the veterans by a tenant. We had one sponsor who sponsored 3 veterans.

Everyone enjoyed a ribeye steak dinner, with cream cheese corn, baked potatoes and sweet potatoes, green beans and cake. All the veterans were excited about the party and happy with all their gifts. We have a monthly crafters group for spouses of the veterans and tenants that donated material and made our Veterans blankets. Gifts for our music program included microphones so we could sing karaoke. And bags of vegetable seeds for our 2026 garden. Each veteran also recieved new bed pillows too.
We all had a nice evening and everything was very much appreciated. Some gifts included long underwear, hats, a coat, curio cabinet, long sleeve shirts, house slippers, wall decor, and many other gifts as well. Again thank you to all who support the Resilient Warriors in Harper, Kansas. I love my job and love each veteran! Thank you for supporting our program.

Good News this week! Last Friday, one of our Resilient Warrior's accomplished a huge goal! He set his goal to get a car. He was able to get it last Friday! His old car limited his ability to get to the nearest VA. or go to far away from home. But not anymore. We are more than proud of him and amazed at his focus to make it happen! Congratulations Dustin! Enjoy your new car!

Great things are happening at the Base Camp! Just an update on whats going on with the Resilient Warrior's program. We updated a place for the Veteran's to gather and have coffee, eat or watch a movie, and play games indoor and outside. No need to get bored around here. We installed a cool horseshoe pit. I found the old cast iron horse shoes for the game at a antique sale, and lumber was donated and the Carbon steel spikes were donated. Painters were recruited. Hopefully we can host a real tournament this fall, as a fundraiser. Setting goals around this place!

Today was a great day and we could not ask for better weather. We celebrate all veterans today at the apartments. The VA Info van came today and is working with our veterans in Harper, Ks, as well as, the Resilient Warrior's. All veterans have opportunity to learn about what forms are needed, questions answered, and benefits that are available. This was a awesome addition to help our veterans who had questions too. The VA Van was busy all afternoon. The representative was so good too and spent time with each veteran.
The Resilient Warrior's cleaned and scrubbed all week, installed curtains, hung pictures and made it a place to go watch tv, play music, and they prepared the Retreat house to eat together. All veterans in the community were invited to join us. Also we had a food truck from noon to 6 p.m. We plan to invite the VA Van back on a regular basis. Definitely it will be great for our community to have this access too. We will do this again on a regular basis.

We dont have just a garden, we have developed some dedication to help each other, plus the veggies are planted! I am proud of all our Veterans and tenants who helped planned the garden, working together, investing by providing donations for hoses, seeds, plants, making time planting, putting the garden together using other veterans donating resources, and just making our hoop garden, and dividing tasks. This project helped us set goals, be purposeful to accomplishing something as a team, plus keeps our veterans from being couped up in their apartments. I want to thank you all for your support with our programs. More to come.

Back in January 2025. We had a breakfast and open house for one of our veterans to celebrate his moving to a new apartment. He moved in to an apartment that was safer for him and that would accommodate his disabilities. Eggs were fresh from my sister's backyard chicken house. Thanks to Donnie our house cook.

Good morning. I'm Sheryl Perez . I have been wanting to give some updates on what's going on at the camp in Harper Kansas, our little community and home of the Resilient Warrior's. I have the honor to get to know our veterans, work with them and pray for them. I must say there is a lot of positive things going on out here. Around the holidays, we implemented a music program for our veterans. If you like music, we have a speaker for everyone to hook up to listen to music, we have a guitar and piano to learn and practice on. Last week, a veteran came by to practice singing. It was so fun. I had to join in and i might add, it was a great afternoon. Weekly the instruments and speaker are being used. Also, we are starting a garden project. All of us are very excited and we just got approved for our zoning yesterday. I will post as we start gardening and hopefully we will have fresh organic vegetables this summer. You will hear from me now that i figured out how to post. Sorry the post is so long but I had to catch up. I will post more.

We have a new teammate for Resilient Warrior and she has been amazing addition to our organization and operation. I just got off the phone with her and she is so sweet. I want to share a quick story with you. She met a vet who was sleeping under a tree and wanted to help. He was so thankful to have a place to stay. She asked if there was anything else he needed. He told her he just wanted a can of ravioli and a shower. Sheryl went and bought him groceries, and made sure he was comfortable and in his new home. He was so thankful and happy to be in a beautiful place with a good meal. He is now helping us whenever we need some work around the place like painting etc. He wants to give back to RW and is a positive addition to our Veteran home. I've put in a lot of money, my team has put in a lot of time effort and prayer and sometimes you don't know how you will be used. But helping just one person makes it all worth it. So for all of you who have helped by buying raffle tickets, donating products for auctions, to everything. I just want to say thank you. We are making a difference in many of the Veteran lives.

Also, we even had a recent graduation. Homeless to now a living in his own place fully self sufficient. That's what it's all about and we are excited to be the hands and feet for God.
