Four years later, Mekhi’s absence is still deeply felt, but so is the impact he left behind.

Mekhi’s smile, his love for basketball, his kindness, and the memories he created with the people around him continue to live on. His name is still spoken, his story is still shared, and his presence can still be felt in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Through the MJC Legacy Foundation, Mekhi’s passion for basketball and his desire to help others continue to make a difference. His legacy has become an opportunity to give back, create memories, and provide opportunities for young people who share the same love for the game.

Four years may have passed, but Mekhi’s impact continues to grow.

Today marks 4 years since you left us, Mekhi. 💔

You are missed beyond words. I miss your smile, your voice, and most of all, hearing you call me “Ma.” There are so many moments when I wish I could hear you say it just one more time.

Khizere misses you deeply. He was only 17 months when you passed, and it amazes me how much he remembers. He talks about you often, and hearing him keeps your memory close to our hearts. He says his heart is happy when people are playing ball at “Da Da’s Park.” I know a part of that happiness comes from feeling connected to you.

Mekhi, your life, your love, and your memory will always be a part of us. We love you more than words could ever express, and we will continue to carry you in our hearts every day. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever my sonshine. ❤️

Over the last three years, the MJC Legacy Foundation has worked to keep your name, your heart, and your love for basketball alive. What started as a way to honor your memory has grown into something so much bigger—a way to make a difference in the lives of young athletes and give them opportunities they may not otherwise have.

Through Hoop Fest and other community events, and the generosity of so many people who believe in your story, your impact continues to grow.

You may not be here to see the smiles, the opportunities, the kids stepping onto the court, or the dreams being chased—but we know you would be proud. Your life was far too short, but your legacy continues to reach so many.

We wanted to let everyone know that our Venmo is currently unavailable. If you’d like to make a donation, we kindly ask that you use PayPal or Cash App until Venmo is back up and running.

While this year’s Hoop Fest was a huge success, Mother Nature had other plans. Thanks to the amazing support of our players, families, sponsors, volunteers, donors, and community, we were able to host a fantastic event and continue supporting the mission of the MJC Legacy Foundation.

Unfortunately, severe weather prevented the championship game from being completed. We explored several options to reschedule the game and award this year’s championship trophy, but scheduling conflicts made it impossible to bring the teams back together.

While we’re disappointed that a champion could not be crowned this year, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who participated and supported the event. Your generosity and commitment helped make Hoop Fest a success, and the impact will continue to benefit the youth we serve.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the court next year! 🏀

Rain may have cut the day short, but the energy, smiles, and community made it a great start to Hoop Fest 🏀 Thank you to all the volunteers and everyone who came out to support our event!

Another huge thank you to our players and sponsors who continue to make this event a success. This year, we were able to award 8 children with a two-week scholarship to Every Level Basketball camp.

We’re working on rescheduling the rest of the tournament — stay tuned!
