We’ve had an overwhelming response to the low-cost vet services this weekend! Due to the amount of people who have reached out, these services will be available from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Saturday.

We will have a tent and table set up to the right side of the building for everyone to come to when they arrive.

Please note: The surgical animals already scheduled on the spay/neuter list will come first. After those appointments are handled, we will begin accepting public animals for the additional vet services from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

This is for people who are NOT signed up for spay/neuter and only need the other vet services being offered this weekend. If you are already signed up for spay/neuter, we will offer these additional services when you bring your animal in at your scheduled appointment time.

You MUST have your animal with you so the veterinarian can properly examine the animal and give the correct dosage for services and medications.

Services will be offered while supplies last.

This is something new for us, so please be patient as we work through the process and help everyone as efficiently as possible. Please also be prepared for possible wait times due to the high turnout.

Thank you to everyone supporting affordable veterinary care in our community and helping keep pets healthy! 🐾

🐾 Kid Volunteer Opportunities Coming Soon! 🐾

Can't forget the kids!

We are working on getting some things organized for kids to be able to help here at the Harlan County Animal Shelter.

This is something new we are trying to build, so right now we don’t have a lot of “kid-friendly” volunteer activities ready at the shelter just yet — but we want to change that!

We’ve had a few parents reach out about their kids wanting to volunteer during the summer, and we think that is wonderful. We want to create safe, positive, and helpful ways for kids to get involved, learn compassion, and help the animals in our community.

While we work on getting things prepared here at the shelter, there are still some great things parents and kids can do at home and bring by the shelter:

🐾 Make homemade dog or cat toys
🎨 Create adoption signs or “Adopt Me” posters
💌 Make thank-you cards for adopters, fosters, donors, and rescue partners
🧺 Collect towels, blankets, or pet supplies
🎁 Put together small treat bags for adopted pets
📦 Host a mini food, toy, or supply drive
📚 Make cards or posters encouraging adoption, fostering, and spay/neuter
🐶 Draw pictures or write positive notes for our shelter animals

This is a great way for kids to be involved while we work on building a more organized youth volunteer program.

If your child or family would like to help, feel free to message us or stop by the shelter. We appreciate everyone who wants to be part of helping the animals of Harlan County.

Be on the lookout for updates once we get things together for them to actually come to the shelter and volunteer!

Any questions or concerns just message here or message me (Ryan Sawyers) or Kaytee Rose Pace

Together, we can teach kindness, responsibility, and compassion — one small act at a time.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Friends of the Shelter meeting!

We truly appreciate everyone who took the time to show up, listen, share ideas, and offer support. We are excited about the opportunity to work together and build something positive for the animals and community of Harlan County.

If you were not able to attend but would still like to get involved, please reach out to us here on Facebook or stop by the shelter. There are many ways to help, and we would love to have you be part of it.

We are looking forward to working with all of you and making a difference together!

🐾 Reminder: Friends of the Shelter Meeting 🐾

We want to remind everyone that Harlan County Friends of the Shelter will be having an open meeting today at 5:00 PM on the 2nd floor of the Old Courthouse in the Fiscal Court Room.

Don’t let the rain showers stop you today — the animals still need us, and we would love to see you there!

This meeting is for anyone interested in helping support the animals of Harlan County through volunteering, fundraising, adoption events, fostering, community outreach, and more.

We have several things coming up, and we need committed people who are willing to be part of something positive for the shelter and the animals in our community.

If you love animals and want to help make a difference, please come out and join us!

Hey gang! After doing some talking, we decided we’d like to bring some local businesses in to “sponsor” our monthly newsletter!

How does it work? We will do one business per month, and for $30 we will add your logo and contact information onto the newsletter! If you or anyone you know is interested, reach out to Kaytee Rose Pace about being a sponsor.

We’re going to go ahead and get our May newsletter spot filled so that we can get the logo attached and ready for these to be sent out the first few days in June😊

Was glad to show appreciation to Post 10 during National Police Week for all they do for us and assisting with our Animal Control!

We would like to extend a big thank you to Ryan and the Harlan County Animal Shelter for stopping by the Post with some desserts in recognition of National Police Week.

We’re excited to share the first issue of “The Paw Print” our monthly newsletter for the Harlan County Animal Shelter! Our very own event coordinator and volunteer Kaytee Rose Pace is doing this for us!

Each month, we’ll highlight shelter updates, events, rescue success stories, volunteer opportunities, and important information for the community.

April was a busy month full of hard work, progress, and continued support from our staff, volunteers, rescue partners, and community.

Thank you to everyone who supports the shelter through adopting, donating, volunteering, sharing our posts, and helping us save lives.
