Super proud of these young men! They received their Eagle Scout Rank tonight. All of the time you have spent together learning valuable life skills has paid off. Congratulations, Nathan, Caleb and Michael! It has been a pleasure of mine to watch each of you grow and develop into outstanding young adults. I was honored to have received an Eagle Scout Mentor pin from you. Thank you for allowing me on your journey!

Way to go, Caleb!

Way to go, Caleb!

In partnership with Boy Scout Troop 149, 2021 Rogers Scholar and Harlan County High School student Caleb Rose organized a clean-up project to pick up trash and debris from the streets of downtown Harlan prior to the city’s annual Easter march on Good Friday. “This project meant a lot to me. We weren’t just cleaning up a town. We were cleaning up our home. This town’s culture, history, and location are so unique and seeing it all cluttered was just so miserable. I know we had to do something, so it means a lot knowing we played a part in helping our community.” Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. Troop 149 had an amazing time this past weekend at Camp Blanton and Martin's Fork Lake.

We camped overnight on Friday at Camp Blanton and then traveled to the lake to earn our Kayaking Merit Badge on Saturday.

The food was delicious - Campfire Apple Pies, Breakfast Burritos, Sandwiches, Trail Mix and Hot Dogs.

Special Thanks to Cub Scout Pack 149 Alum Garrison Warren for loaning the Troop some kayaks.

According to the Scout Law, a Scout Is CLEAN in Thought, Word and DEED.

Scouts from Troop 149 spent a couple of hours this evening picking up Laden Trail. Scouts retrieved two couches, two mattresses, multiple appliances and many bags of litter! We're very proud of our Scouts dedicating their time to make a difference in our Community.

Huge shout-out to David Howard, P.G. of Howard Engineering and Geology, Inc. for visiting our Troop last night and teaching Part 1 of the Soil and Water Conservation merit badge. Very cool and educational!

Scouts learned the importance of vital nutrients in soil for agriculture as well as everyday engineering features that help preserve our beautiful landscape.
