🌿 Troops 238 & 271 Join Forces for Conservation! 🌿

This weekend, Scouts from Troop 238 and Troop 271 - Harker Heights, TX worked together at Miller Springs Park in Belton, TX, to make a real impact. The Scouts focused on removing Ligustrum, an invasive species that threatens the park’s ecosystem.

The project was more than just physical work. Our Scouts also learned about erosion, watersheds, and the park’s history, including how the land was affected by dam overflow in the ā€˜90s. šŸŒšŸ’§

This service project is part of the Messenger of Peace program, an initiative that encourages Scouts to take action in their communities to promote peace, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

The project falls under the Civic Engagement learning path, which focuses on taking action to address issues that affect our communities. By working to improve the health of Miller Springs Park, our Scouts are contributing to a peaceful and sustainable environment. šŸŒ

This effort wouldn’t have been possible without the leadership and assistance from Belton Parks and Recreation, particularly Recreation Superintendent and Eagle Scout Adam Trujillo. Their guidance and support were invaluable in making this project a success. šŸ‘šŸŒ³

This effort wasn’t only about cleaning up; it was about giving back, preserving nature, and learning how to protect the environment for future generations. Our Scouts are living out the values of the Messenger of Peace Award, which recognizes those who work to create positive change in the world.

We are so proud of our Scouts for their hard work and commitment to making a positive difference! ✨

Merit Badge Workday!

Our scouts are working on learning how to refinish surfaces, so they chose to restore our first Eagle project that took quite a beating in one of our recent hail storms. They sanded, cleaned, and restained and sealed one of the four benches today!

In keeping with the season, we stole a skeleton arm from our coming Court of Honor supplies to use as a stir stick, and it kept the girls company through the project šŸ˜…

Amelia kept us fed with her family's white chicken chili recipe, and she did a great job getting everything cooked on site for us.

We had a great meeting tonight!

A friend of our Scoutmaster, Chris Mulhall, filled in on short notice to complete a first class requirement as a guest speaker. Our meeting room was taken, so we pivoted to tablets instead of our normal AV set up. We learned about the history and importance of our constitution and the scouts asked great questions about women's right to vote, why the constitution was drafted, and more. Thanks to Chris for the great information!

A huge congratulations are in order to three scouts for completing rank tonight: Amelia | Scout Rank, Leyla | Scout Rank, and Meara | Tenderfoot Rank! These girls have worked incredibly hard, and I couldn't be prouder. Our SPL is incredibly close herself and will finish before next week's Court of Honor!

Last but not least, congratulations to Sarah for being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society tonight! We were there with you in spirit, and we're all proud of your accomplishment

What Kind of Impact Can Scouting Have On Your Life?

Meet Morgan, an Eagle Scout from Occoneechee Council in North Carolina (Pictured at 1:20). Morgan's first introduction to welding was at summer camp, and now she's using those skills as a welder in Norfolk, repairing ships for the Navy.

There's a reason Scouting's merit badge system has so many fields of interest! Every day, Scouting helps introduce our youth members to their next hobby, a new skill, or even their career.

This week, our scouts chose our next summer camp. Summer 2025, we will be making the journey to Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia!

The Summit is home to National Jamboree, and a former host of the World Scout Jamboree in 2019. We're excited for a new experience and the journey we will all take together!

**World Scout Scarf Day**

Today scouts all over the world wear their scarves (what most of the world calls neckerchiefs) to commemorate the first scout summer camp conducted by Sir Baden Powell on Brownsea Island. It's a significant day in the history of scouting, and it's a great way to show scout spirit!

Pictured is our custom troop neckers. Our scouts earn the troop emblem to sew on when they achieve first class. It's a special way to commemorate the first big rank milestone on their journey to Eagle.
