Recovery matters!!

For the second year, The Gift House showed up alongside treatment providers, recovery residences, advocates, and people in recovery from across the state at the Recovery Rally in Frankfort. We had the opportunity to hear Governor Beshear speak about the importance of recovery, make valuable connections, and learn about resources that can better serve the women who walk through our door.

Days like this remind us that none of us can do this work alone. Recovery grows stronger when communities share resources, open doors, and work together. ❤️

We’re grateful to have been part of it, and we’re already looking forward to coming back next year!

Also, see our shirts? You can support us by getting one, too! We have most sizes S-4XL available.

Our Executive Director and a few of our residents made their way to Frankfort this morning for the Recovery Rally at the Capitol!

Today is about celebrating recovery, standing together, and reminding Kentucky that recovery is real, and worth showing up for. We’re proud to have The Gift House represented! 💜

One question we get pretty often is, “What church is The Gift House affiliated with?”

The answer is: all of them and none of them. 😂

The Gift House is its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so we aren’t operated by or under one particular church. We are proudly Christ-centered, though, and we’re thankful to be supported by churches from different denominations throughout our community.

Some pray for us. Some give. Some volunteer, teach, provide meals, or welcome our women through their doors. Each one plays a part, and there is always room for another church to join us.

We may be our own organization, but we were never meant to do this work alone and we truly depend on each one of them and the entire body of Christ. ❤️

In recovery, you have to learn what to do when you’re angry, overwhelmed, lonely, embarrassed, or just having a really bad day. You have to learn who you can call before you make a decision you can’t take back. You have to get comfortable telling someone the truth when the truth isn’t pretty.

That’s why a support system matters so much.

Not people who fix everything for you. Not people who cosign everything you do. People who know you well enough to say, “Hey, something’s off. Talk to me.” People who will laugh with you, pray with you, call you out when necessary, and remind you where you came from when you start forgetting.

Recovery requires personal responsibility. Nobody else can do the work for you…But that doesn’t mean you’re supposed to do it by yourself.

Why are partners so important to what we do?

Because this picture holds eight years of answered prayers.

It shows The Gift House’s very first graduate in 2018 hugging our most recent graduate in 2026. But it also shows something even sweeter: a mother embracing her daughter. ❤️🙌🏼

Recovery doesn’t change only one life. It reaches families. It restores relationships. It changes what is possible for the next generation.

Being able to witness moments like this and walk alongside women as they build a new life is exactly why we do what we do.

And we do not do it alone. The community partners, churches, businesses, and individuals who believe in this work help keep the door open. Through their generosity and willingness to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, moments like this one are possible.

If you feel led to build a deeper relationship with The Gift House, we would love to tell you more about becoming an Open Door Partner.

Today was graduation day!! 🎓

In recovery programs, people come and go. We see high turnover rates, relapse, overdose, and old destructive patterns pull people back into the life they worked so hard to leave. The Gift House is not immune to that reality.

That is why days like today mean so much.

Brittney, you persevered. You stayed when it was hard, put in the work, and allowed God to change your life. Today, you are graduating with a strong foundation in recovery and, most importantly, a relationship with Jesus.

I am so proud of you, not only for how far you have come, but for the woman you have become along the way. It has been an honor to watch you grow, and I cannot wait to see what God does next.

Congratulations, Brittney! You did it! ❤️

When Laura arrived at The Gift House after years of addiction and incarceration, freedom didn’t feel freeing. It felt terrifying.
“I went from a sterile, gray, controlled environment to a home filled with colors, smells, people, and choices.”

Incarceration had taught her how to follow instructions and survive in a controlled environment. It hadn’t taught her how to choose a church, find a sponsor, apply for a job, care for a home, build healthy relationships, or trust herself to make everyday decisions.

At The Gift House, no one did those things for her, but no one expected her to figure them out alone, either.

“They guided me. They didn’t make me feel stupid. They didn’t make fun of me. They didn’t force me to leave when I didn’t understand something or didn’t do it exactly the way they would have.”

That balance matters. Compassion without accountability doesn’t prepare someone for independence, but accountability without compassion can leave a woman believing she’ll never be capable of change. At The Gift House, women receive both.

“I had to do it on my own, but I didn’t have to figure it out alone.”
That’s what an open door can become: a safe place to learn, make mistakes, take responsibility, and begin building a life you once didn’t believe was possible.

You do not have to work in recovery to become part of someone’s recovery story. You can pray. You can share our mission. You can connect us with a church or business. You can volunteer, purchase a shirt, or become an Open Door Partner.

Every act of support reminds a woman that her past does not get the final word, and that her community believes a new life is possible.
