đź“– A Glimpse Into the Minds of Breckinridge County Students Nearly 100 Years Ago

While going through the 1928 Breckinridge County High School yearbook at the museum this morning, this really stands out.

Written by Ruby Jarboe, this “Class History” doesn’t just recount the events of high school—it transforms it into anepic journey. Freshmen begin their travels on the “Hill of Discipline,” pass through the “Whispering Ravine,” navigate the “Swamp of Latin” and “Mathematics Bend,” and find refuge in the “sun-shiny Meadow of English.”

The writing is thoughtful and funny It reminds us that while styles, fashions, and technology have changed, young people have always been capable of creativity, insight, and beautiful expression.

Take a moment to read this piece written by a Breckinridge County student in 1928 and share your thoughts!

📬 Help Tell Breckinridge County’s Story!

As part of our Stars, Stripes & Stories Time Capsule Project, we’re inviting community members to submit items that capture life in Breckinridge County in 2026. These contributions will be sealed in a time capsule on July 4, 2026, and opened on July 4, 2076.

We are accepting items such as:
Photographs
Letters to the future
Family recipes
Church bulletins
Local business cards, menus, and advertisements
Event programs and flyers
Other small mementos that represent our community today

Please do not submit:
Perishable items
Liquids
Food products
Batteries or electronics
Anything hazardous, fragile, or oversized

A good rule of thumb: if you can’t safely put it in the mail, it probably shouldn’t go in the time capsule.
