With Original Medicare, not all providers work with Medicare the same way. Before scheduling an appointment, it's important to understand how your provider participates in Medicare.

✅ Best Option: Providers Who Accept Assignment These providers agree to accept the Medicare-approved amount as full payment for covered services. This typically means lower out-of-pocket costs, and they submit claims directly to Medicare for you.

⚠️ Non-Participating Providers Some providers don't always accept assignment. They may require payment upfront and, in many cases, can charge up to 15% more than the Medicare-approved amount.

🚫 Providers Who Opt Out of Medicare If a provider has opted out of Medicare, Medicare generally won't pay for services you receive from them (except in emergencies). You'll likely be responsible for the full cost of care.

💡Before receiving care, ask your doctor if they accept Medicare assignment. Choosing providers who do can help keep your healthcare costs lower and make the billing process easier.

Don’t forget that if your license plate are due if you are 65 years or older, you can get a discount on the sticker if you meet the guidelines.

Never give out your Medicare number to someone who calls you claiming they need it. Scammers call and pretend to be from Medicare, doctors' offices, or other government agencies and ask you to confirm information over the phone in order to "verify" benefits or claim a "free" offer.

Don't fall for these! Even if the caller has your name, address, birthday, or any other personal information, hang up. Call your doctor or Medicare yourself to verify the call.
