Harm reduction is about dignity, safety, and meeting people where they are. By centering compassion over judgment, harm reduction saves lives and strengthens communities.

At Red Project, we are committed to evidence-based, person-centered care that supports people who use drugs, people living with HIV, and all those impacted by systemic barriers. Through education, advocacy, and direct services, we work to reduce harm, challenge stigma, and build a world where health and justice are accessible to all. Harm reduction isn’t just one thing - it’s a framework built on 8 essential pillars that create safer, healthier communities.

Harm reduction is for everyone. It’s not about approval or disapproval - it’s about meeting people where they are and making sure they stay alive, stay safe, and stay supported.

Chii-Miigwech, indinawemaaganak. ❤
(Thank you, all of my relatives.)

Northern Michigan experienced an ice storm that brought devastation and destruction to all of our relatives. For our people, many asked themselves, "How will I stay warm? Where can I eat now that my food has spoiled? Where can I get water? Who will help me?"

The community, relatives, lineworkers, tree removal services, non-profit organizations, businesses, and so many more, stepped up to help. Why? Because of love.

Zaagi'idiwin (love) is a beautiful Seven Grandfather Teaching. It does not have a definition, it is simply a timeless quality that lives and breathes within us.

The continued support to help people during this crisis is one of the best displays of love to witness. Again, Chii-miigwetch to all of our relatives who are continuing to help others as the community still recovers.

Turning Talking Back into Respectful Communication

When your child talks back, it’s often a sign they’re overwhelmed, frustrated, or testing boundaries—not that they’re being intentionally disrespectful. Instead of reacting with punishment, pause and acknowledge their feelings: “It sounds like you’re upset.” Then calmly guide them toward more respectful ways to express themselves. You can say, “I want to hear what you’re saying, but I need you to use a calmer voice.”

Practice role-playing respectful dialogue when emotions aren’t high, so they have the tools when it counts. Remember, your response teaches them how to handle conflict with others too. Every moment of “talking back” is also a moment to teach emotional regulation and communication.
