Public Statement Regarding Terminations of U.S. Department of Interior Agreements.

Public Statement Regarding Terminations of U.S. Department of Interior Agreements.

On Sept. 23, the Mid Klamath Watershed Council received news from the Dept. of Interior that 7 of our US Fish & Wildlife Service grants โ€“ funds that were obligated for work already underway โ€“ were terminated effective immediately. These competitive grants, awarded between 2022 and 2024, funded work vital to public safety, local economies, and wildfire and watershed resilience in the Mid Klamath Basin.

As a result of these abrupt grant terminations, we have had to make the difficult decision to reduce the scope of these projects in the rural, northern CA communities we serve. We are actively looking for replacement sources to fill the gap from this sudden loss of federal funding.

โ€œOur communities have worked for decades to proactively and collaboratively manage the Klamath Basinโ€™s ecosystems while supporting local livelihoods,โ€ said Luna Latimer, Co-Executive Director. โ€œWe remain committed to finding solutions that keep this work moving forward.โ€

๐Ÿšจ Community Workshops on Evacuation Planning ๐Ÿšจ

The Siskiyou County Local Transportation Commission (SCLTC), in partnership with The Resiliency Initiative (TRI), is developing a Siskiyou County Evacuation and Preparedness Plan.

This plan will help create clear evacuation routes, improve coordination between agencies, and identify ways to make our roads, bridges, and transportation systems safer during emergencies.

โœ… These workshops are your chance to:
- Learn more about the plan
- Ask questions
- Share your input to make sure your communityโ€™s needs are heard

Your feedback will help shape evacuation protocols for the nine incorporated cities, tribal communities, and rural areas across Siskiyou Countyโ€”with special attention to vulnerable populations and areas at greater risk.
