The Last Resort

The Last Resort The Last Resort is a no-kill cat shelter that opened in 1981 and has cared for more than 26,000 cats and kittens. Our goal is to find good homes.

History:
The Last Resort opened in a 19th century carriage house in 1981. Since then, more than 26,000 cats and kittens have spent time in the shelter recovering from illness, abandonment, and injuries. Of those 20,534 found new, good homes, and just over 5,800 are feral cats who were trapped, fixed, and returned to areas where shelter and food are provided by volunteers. The Last Resort is a no-

kill shelter which is associated with the Town of Hanover where founder Joan Norris serves as a volunteer Assistant Animal Control Officer. The town set up a Last Resort Gift Fund so that gifts deposited in that account are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Mission:
At the heart of the shelter's mission is the desire to confront evil and inequality with love and action. The underlying belief is that all animals deserve to be treated well and cared for, not left by the side of the road or euthanized simply because their injuries are expensive or time-consuming to fix. Adoptions:
The adoption fee of $250 covers part of the costs of testing for FIV and leukemia, veterinary exam(s), FVRCP shot, rabies shot, spay or neuter, flea treatment, worming, and whatever else is needed by the individual cat or kitten. Fees can be lower or waived under certain circumstances. Our Veterinarians:
Over the years since the shelter opened, we have been blessed by many wonderful veterinarians who drop by the shelter to examine cats and kittens or offer incredibly-generous discounts for all the work that needs to be done. We work primarily with Marshfield Animal Hospital in Marshfield and VCA Roberts Animal Hospital in Hanover, MA, where everyone is not only devoted to providing the highest quality of care for all pets, but also are genuinely nice and very talented in the roles they play at each practice. Donations:
Your donations are critical to the success of The Last Resort cat shelter. While we will always rescue cats and kittens, your gifts greatly expand what the shelter is able to accomplish. Memorial gifts will be acknowledged in our twice-yearly newsletter. You can sponsor a permanent resident with a monthly contribution of $30 (our permanent residents are cats who are unable to fully trust people again after suffering abuse or are feral and just not that interested in people). A number of long-term donors have included bequests in their wills, and we are very grateful to them. Your donations are deposited into The Last Resort Gift Fund held by the Town of Hanover and are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Phone: (781)-826-5610

I rarely send "unsolicited emails," just occasionally when I have a cat or kitten who needs very expensive care and the shelter needs financial help. And I've only done that three times!
