ART BILLBOARDS/BANNERS NOW SHOWING

Throughout the month of June, Robinson Outdoor digital billboards at Broadway & Maple Avenue and Stardust Drive will showcase vibrant works by local artists as part of the Hannibal Arts Council’s 11th Annual ART IN THE OPEN public art contest. This annual public art initiative is sponsored by the Hannibal Arts Council.

Five winning entries were selected - two Student Division and three Adult Division winners. Featured on the billboards are:
Student Division
o “Dahlia” by Addilyn Hedges of Hannibal
o “Giraffe” by Ella Weber of Louisiana
Adult Division
o “Pistol+Hotrod+Mike” by Joan Atkins of Canton
o “Dusk to Dawn” by Patricia Garey of Hannibal
o “Desert Relic” by Timothy Spencer of Quincy

A selection committee chose ten finalists in each division and the public cast over 2,000 votes via a Facebook contest to choose the final winners.

ART IN THE OPEN brings art out of galleries and into the everyday lives of residents and visitors, turning local roadsides into open-air galleries and celebrating creativity across all ages. The winning images are also currently featured on ART IN THE OPEN Splash banners at the Hannibal Parks & Recreation's Ronny Ferrel Hannibal Aquatic Center.

Today's Coffee Talk: Dennis Babbitt sponsored by Wade Stables, PC was engaging and enriching! See his works at the Hannibal Arts Council through June 27 during regular gallery hours Noon-5pm Mon-Fri and 11am-2pm Saturdays or at the Alliance Art Gallery.

ART MAKES A SPLASH AT RONNY FERREL HANNIBAL AQUATIC CENTER!

The five winning entries from the Hannibal Arts Council’s 11th annual ART IN THE OPEN public art contest aren’t just appearing on digital billboards around Hannibal in June – they have been transformed into banners that will hang all summer at the Ronny Ferrel Hannibal Aquatic Center. Two sets of banners enhance both sides of the fencing surrounding the pool. Visitors to the pool and those passing by will get to enjoy the banners. The Hannibal Arts Council, Hannibal Parks & Recreation and Golden Eagle Distributing have teamed up for this vibrant and creative summer project – to make a SPLASH!

Winning images featured in the SPLASH! project in the Student Division are “Dahlia” by Addylin Hedges of Hannibal and “Giraffe” by Ella Weber of Louisiana. Adult Division winners include “Pistol+Hotrod+Mike” by Joan Atkins of Canton, “Dusk to Dawn” by Patricia Garey of Hannibal and “Desert Relic” by Timothy Spencer of Quincy.

SPLASH! is an added project of the ART IN THE OPEN public art contest. For the 2026 contest 180 entries were submitted, including 48 in the Student Division and 132 in the Adult Division. A selection committee chose ten finalists in each division and then opened voting through a Facebook Contest for the public to determine both the Adult and Student Division winners. Over 1800 votes were cast in the contests.

In addition to being featured with SPLASH! banners, winners have their work featured on Robinson Outdoor digital billboards at Broadway & Maple Avenue and Stardust Drive during the month of June.
