Hey parents! We’re reviving our page to better keep you informed and to encourage you as you raise your teen. We want this space to be a place of support, resources, and reminders that you’re not alone in this season.
It is always an honor to write to you. As a youth pastor, I am a champion for parents. I see your investment, your prayers, and your perseverance—and it matters more than you know.
I want to encourage you with James 4:7: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” There is power in surrender to the Lord.
As a parent, you may live in the tension between what you can control and what you cannot when it comes to your student. That tension is real. But I want to gently remind you that before your student was yours, they belonged to the Lord. Children are a gift from God, entrusted to us for a season. When things feel out of your control, there is an invitation not to strive harder, but to surrender more deeply to the One who is able not only to save us, but to sustain and keep us.
So surrender your student to the Lord.
Practical ways to surrender your student to God:
• Pray specifically and consistently – Name your student before the Lord and pray for their heart, friendships, decisions, and identity in Christ.
• Release control daily – Verbally give your worries to God and say, “Lord, I trust You with what I cannot see or manage.”
• Speak life over them – Remind your student who they are in Christ, not just how they should behave.
• Model surrender yourself – Let them see your dependence on God in your decisions, stress, and faith.
• Trust God’s pursuit of them – Even when they wander, remember God loves them more than you do and is actively at work in their life.
• Stay anchored in hope – Surrender is not giving up. It is placing your student into the most capable hands possible.
The Lord cares deeply for your child. He sees them, knows them, and is working in ways we cannot always recognize. Our role is faithfulness. His role is transformation.
