The September Ag Crimes Report is out β€” three updates from the Kings County Sheriff's Office Rural Crimes Unit. 🚨 During surveillance for a wire theft suspect near 9th and East Street in Hanford, detectives spotted an unrelated theft in progress and arrested a suspect who fled on foot β€” recovering a $1,500+ Milwaukee toolbox stolen from an ag company truck. Two suspects were also arrested for stealing four large hay bales near Corcoran. One left his phone on top of the haystack, which helped investigators make the second arrest. And a reminder: Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) returned to Kings County in August using a drone to surveil livestock operations. Allegations were investigated and found to be unfounded β€” but producers should maintain the highest standards of animal care at all times. Report suspicious activity to the Rural Crimes Unit.🌾

The August Ag Crimes Report is out β€” and there are two important updates for Kings County growers. 🚨 Good news first: recent arrests by the Kings County Sheriff's Office Rural Crimes Unit have helped slow copper wire thefts locally, even as neighboring counties continue to see increases. The concern: agricultural chemical thefts are on the rise. More than $150,000 in insecticides were stolen from a warehouse on Whitley Avenue near Corcoran. Investigators are also warning that stolen chemicals may be resold to growers at discounted prices β€” if approached by an unlicensed seller, contact the Rural Crimes Unit immediately. Store chemicals in a locked facility. Install surveillance cameras. Report suspicious activity promptly. 🌾 Contact: Detective Santos (559) 904-6893 Β· Detective Estrada (559) 212-7512 Β· Detective Bernardo (559) 589-3535 Β· Investigator Ward (559) 280-5441 Β· Dispatch (559) 584-9276

Did you know Kings County agriculture helps fund local schools? πŸ“Š 51.12% of agriculture's property tax contribution goes directly to education. Add $1.1 billion in economic output, 8,100+ jobs, and $44.3 million in annual property taxes β€” and the picture is clear. Agriculture's impact extends well beyond the farm gate. 🌾

One Plan. Five Plans. One Plan Again.
If Tulare Lake's groundwater planning process feels like it's constantly changing, you're not alone.

As state actions continue to reshape the path forward under SGMA, questions remain about how different legal options are being applied - and what those changes mean for local growers, water managers, and the future of the subbasin.

The cover story of our latest e-newsletter takes a closer look at how we got here, why it matters, and what's next. πŸ“–
