UPDATE: Due to the flood watch issued on Friday morning for Kauaʻi County, we’ve decided to postpone this Saturday’s Grow Aloha events at both Lāwaʻi Gardens and Limahuli Garden. We’re working to reschedule and will share new dates once they’re confirmed. Mahalo for your understanding!
_______________

Join us this Saturday for our March Grow Aloha event featuring palapalai 🌱

📅 Saturday, March 21, 2026
⏰ 9am - 12pm
📍 Limahuli Garden (5-8291 Kūhiō Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714)*

Palapalai is a beautiful native fern deeply rooted in many moʻolelo, oli, and mele. It holds particular significance for hula dancers, as it is recognized as a kinolau, or embodiment, of Laka, the goddess of hula. Ideal for partially shaded areas, palapalai thrives in moisture-rich spots and can be planted as a lush groundcover or a beautiful accent under the canopy of larger trees.

Plants are subject to availability and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Grow Aloha plant adoptions are free and open to Kauaʻi residents.

🌦️ Please note: Grow Aloha events are subject to postponement if weather conditions or road closures affect our NTBG sites. We'll continue to monitor conditions closely and will post any necessary updates to social media.

🪴 Live closer to Lāwaʻi? Attend the Lāwaʻi Gardens Grow Aloha event, also held on the third Saturday! Please note that plants vary by location.

Join us this Saturday for our February Grow Aloha event featuring native hibiscuses 🌱

📅 Saturday, February 21, 2026
⏰ 9am - 12pm
📍 Limahuli Garden (5-8291 Kūhiō Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714)

Hawaiʻi is home to several unique native hibiscus species found nowhere else in the world. While many of the hibiscuses seen in landscaping are actually ornamental varieties, our native species have evolved specifically for Hawaiʻi’s diverse ecosystems. Kauaʻi in particular is home to a handful of unique hibiscuses including the fragrant kokiʻo keʻokeʻo and kokiʻo ʻulaʻula.

We will have kokiʻo ʻulaʻula and kokiʻo keʻokeʻo available for adoption.

Plants are subject to availability and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Grow Aloha plant adoptions are free and open to Kauaʻi residents.

WHAT TO KNOW FOR THIS MONTH’S EVENT

📱 We're trialing a new digital intake form to speed up the adoption process (if you joined us last month, you’ll recognize the same process). Please have your phone with you so you can scan our QR code at the adoption area.
