Aloha kākou — Due to damage from the recent Kona low storm, the Kaihalulu trail is currently unsafe and closed.

The section of trail crossing through Ke Ao Hāli‘i ‘āina has been closed in coordination with the Maui Police Department. Barriers and closure notices are posted.

This area has a history of serious injuries and emergency rescues, including airlifts and deaths. Ignoring closure warnings puts your safety and the safety of first responders at risk.

Ke Ao Hāli‘i is working in partnership with Hōlani Hāna, with support from Maui Countyʻs Office of Economic Development grant program, to provide on-site education and outreach. We are grateful for the collaboration of MPD, neighboring landowners and community partners; our shared goal is to protect people, place and resources.

We ask residents and visitors alike to mālama ‘āina and respect these safety measures. Mahalo!
