Attention YOUTH:

Now Open: MCRUD 2026 Youth Photovoice Project
Give youth a voice through photography, storytelling, and prevention awareness.

The Michigan Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking ( ) is inviting coalitions and youth across Michigan to participate in the 2026 Photovoice Project — a creative opportunity for students in grades 6–12 to explore and share perspectives about alcohol use and prevention in their communities.

Who? Open to kids in grades 6-12.
When? The MCRUD Photovoice Project will run until July 4.
What? Youth from participating coalitions will go out and take photos that answer the framing questions listed here. (Partner with your local Drug Free Community Coalition)

What influences people your age to start using ?
How are people your age getting alcohol?
Where do people your age drink alcohol?
What influences people your age to stay alcohol free?

Youth will be encouraged to submit one photo per question/prompt, along with a corresponding written paragraph that describes the photo and answers the prompt. Youth can take photos that answer one, two, three, or all four of the framing questions. Written portions should be a short paragraph.

All youth will be invited to exhibit at the MCRUD Annual Meeting which is taking place on August 21 in the Guidance Center 13111 Allen Rd. Building 2 Southgate, MI 48195.
Attendance at the event is not a requirement for having your photos displayed.

Our HDFCC Director, Shannon, was able to present at the CMHA Spring Conference yesterday. It seems like her presentation on Naloxone was well received.

This reminds us... YOU too can be trained on Narcan overdose prevention! Contact us by calling the office at 313 733 4535 or email [email protected] to set up 15 minutes (online or in person). If you're interested, we'll work with you or your group.

🎮💰 Youth gambling doesn’t always look like gambling.

It’s not just casinos or slot machines anymore. Today, young people may be exposed to gambling through sports betting apps, online games, fantasy sports, loot boxes, scratch-offs, card games, social casino games, and even betting with friends.

⚠️ Many of these activities are designed to feel fun, competitive, or harmless — but they can still carry real risks.

Youth gambling can lead to:
• Financial problems
• Stress and anxiety
• Chasing losses
• Hiding gambling behaviors
• Trouble focusing in school or daily life
• Addictive behavior

Talking early can make a difference. Parents, caregivers, educators, and community members all play an important role in helping young people understand the risks and make healthy choices.

Continuing with Medicare Fraud Prevention Week, we at community coalition recommend that you download and use a My Health Care Tracker from the SMP and track what happens at appointments to then compare what you have written to what is billed on the Medicare Summary Notices (MSNs) and/or Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).

If you see something concerning, report it to the SMP.
App can be downloaded directly from the SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) website at:

Fun little fact!

On May 26, 1925, Dan Robbins, the inventor of the "paint by number" craft system, was born in Detroit. Robbins attended Cass Technical High School and conceived the idea for paint by number in 1949 after being inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, who would hand out numbered patterns to his apprentices.

🎨 We're paying homage to Robbins with a new paint-by-number style mural that will be installed this summer at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum! You can submit YOUR original art to be considered for the design at detroithistorical.org/mural

The and its community coalition are proud to support the Children's Hospital of Michigan's "Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive". They have an annual campaign in partnership with Community Food Bank to feed local children during the summer.

Well, we're doing a local version in using the Little Library in front of the office. No child should be left hunger because they're not in school getting lunch/ breakfast. Support these efforts by donating Children's Hospital or locally to
