I had the privilege of attending Semaj’s high school graduation. I’ve watched him maintain a job and be active in his son’s life while striving to finish school. In spite of challenges, he has successfully finished this chapter!

Last night, we took a group of our middle schoolers out for a serious discussion about sexual boundaries and consent. We talked about the importance of having boundaries, respecting other people’s boundaries, and obtaining consent. We also talked about the trauma that is caused by violating boundaries and the legal repercussions that can follow. During our talk, the boys completed a worksheet, showing that they understood the information that was being presented.

After our discussion, the fun began! We raced go-karts and played arcade games. I LET a few of them beat me in the races 😂.

It was a night filled with important lessons, fun, and high energy!

A couple of years ago, I told a few of the boys, “If you train with me on camera at church, when I start back doing paid events, I’ll pay you to work with me.”

When we took our group of boys on the road trip last month, Anthony soaked in every moment of the scenery. He constantly took pictures and never hesitated to hop out of the car whenever we stopped to observe the view. I enjoyed watching his reactions to the mountains.

As a mentor, watching teens experience and appreciate new places is rewarding!
