Andrea DeGroote and Rachel Connor with Crisis Intervention Service just stopped by OnTheGoMedia to talk about the importance of supporting survivors of sexual assault throughout the year and during the month of April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

According to DeGroote, Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a time for communities to stand with survivors and commit to change.

“Many survivors struggle to speak out due to fear or stigma, but support and understanding can make a powerful difference in their healing,” she said. “Raising awareness helps break the silence around sexual violence, challenges harmful myths and promotes education about consent and respect. It also connects survivors to resources and reminds them they are not alone.”

DeGroote said supporting survivors starts with believing them. A number of area businesses are participating in their monthlong community awareness project by hanging teal ribbons and displaying teal merchandise in their windows.
