Important information:
The Suffolk County Department of Public Works (SCDPW) will hold a Public Information Meeting on the proposed replacement of the Montauk Highway Bridge over the LIRR on Thursday, July 30, at Southampton Town Hall, beginning at 6:00 PM

The Suffolk County DPW is undertaking a project to replace the existing CR 80 Bridge over LIRR just west of Gravel Hill Road. The purpose of this public meeting is to inform the public of the project, anticipated schedule and traffic impacts during construction.

Starting at 6 PM, there will be an informational open house featuring the project details on display for public review. Q&A opportunities may be directed to SCDPW and the consultant team representatives on an individual basis or in small groups at this time, or after the informational presentation.

The existing bridge needs to be replaced to address existing safety, longevity and functionality concerns. The project will require Montauk Highway to be detoured from the start of bridge demolition until the roadway is reestablished (approximately 7-8 months). The proposed Montauk Highway detour will utilize Ponquogue Avenue, Fanning Avenue and Canoe Place Road.

The scope of the project and approximate schedule are as follows:
 Begin work on site – Summer 2029
 Demolish the existing bridge and set up Montauk Highway detour – Fall 2030
 Complete construction of new bridge and end Montauk Highway detour – Spring 2031
 Finish site work – Summer 2031

Please attend this most important meeting to address your questions and concerns.

Hello Everyone,

As you may already be aware, the Heatherwood Apartment complex at 166 W. Montauk Highway, currently with 106 existing units, is looking to expand.

The owners/developers have approached the Southampton Town Planning Board at a recent public meeting on Thursday July 9, proposing to add 24 new units. Nine of those would be above the new retail establishments to be built along Montauk Highway, and the remaining 15 to be in a newly constructed building in the rear of the complex.

At the Planning Board meeting, it was also suggested the developers add an exit passageway for cars into the Atrium area, allowing access to Route 24.

The Planning Board closed the hearing with a 10-day written comment period, meaning the Board must receive written comments no later than July 19 to be considered in their decision.

If you have any thoughts, concern or opinions on the matter, we urge you to get in touch with the Planning Board this week.
