After graduating from Hampton Bays High School, Art attended Hamilton College on a basketball scholarship and ultimately ended up working at Carr Futures in the World Trade Center. He was working that fateful day in September and tragically lost his life. Soon after, the AJJ Scholarship Fund was created to help keep his memory alive and to empower young men and women who are living their lives in
his likeness. Since its inception in 2002, the AJJ Scholarship Fund has awarded over $430,000 in scholarships and worthy community initiatives. This year, at least one deserving senior from HBHS will receive a substantial award to help him or her begin their college journey. Applicants are selected based on the following criteria: community service and involvement, extra curricular activities, academic success of at least an 88 cumulative GPA, athletic involvement each year of high school with at least one year on a Varsity team at HBHS, completion of an essay and an interview. Financial need may be taken into account. The winners may or may not be the most outstanding players on the team, but it is the Committee’s hope that they be the most well-rounded.
