Chartered in 1985, the Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area is seeking new members to help us meet our strategic vision -
EMBRACE. We are an ‘organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time,’ in keeping with the defining statement of Kiwanis International. We are an active club that meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm to 7:3
0pm at 21 Perkins Rd. These meetings have fantastic community speakers on topics that impact the local children, schools, and families. Also, monthly, we schedule a social event and what we refer to as a "Boots On The Ground" volunteer opportunity. These dates and times vary, so we send emails and SignUp Genius invitations to our members and prospective members. Generally, four times a year, we sponsor fundraising events in the local area to raise money to meet the needs of our community. You can always check the Kiwanis calendar at your convenience at this link. We are a unique club because we don't serve just one community. We serve Surf City, Topsail Beach, and North Topsail Beach on Topsail Island and the surrounding areas of Sneads Ferry, Hampstead, and Holly Ridge. We partner closely with school social workers and guidance counselors to meet the students’ basic needs that attend Surf City Elementary and Middle School, Dixon and Topsail High School, Dixon Elementary and Middle School, and Coastal Elementary School. We sponsor Service Leadership Programs (K-Kids, Builders Clubs, and Key Clubs) at our schools, so if your interest is working directly with the students, we gotcha covered! Since July 2021, our club:
● Awarded $15k in college and post-college trade school scholarships
● Awarded $23k to fund innovative teacher grant requests in the Pender and Onslow County schools we serve
● Awarded $8k to support social worker requests that met basic student needs like shoes, clothing, healthy food, and school supplies through our “One Child At A Time” program
● Planned healthy menus, purchased the food, prepared, and served dinner quarterly to 50 clients to support our local food pantry - Share The Table - that equated to $2k and 140 volunteer hours
● Donated $5k in support of Share The Table's Capital Campaign Fund
● Purchased and delivered a total of $2,000 worth of seasonally appropriate clothing to our adopted school's "Clothing Closets"
● Volunteered over 275 hours toward upkeep and maintenance of the property for Roots of Recovery, Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, Sneads Ferry Branch Library, Surf City Middle School Discovery Courtyard, and various Beach Sweep Clean-Up days at Topsail Beach, Surf City, and North Topsail Beach
● Sponsored and advised four Service Leadership Programs serving over 100 students and 12 disabled adults in two middle school Builders Clubs, one high school Key Club, and one Aktion Club, donating over 200 volunteer hours
● Purchased and coordinated the donation of a mature Cherry Tree to Surf City Middle School in memoriam of an 8th-grade student
● Purchased and coordinated a new digital educational exhibit for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center
● Purchased, assembled, and donated four Free Little Libraries located at Surf City Community Center Park, Holly Ridge Municipal Park, North Topsail Beach Richard C. Peters Town Park, and Coastal Elementary School in support of community literacy
