Cub Scout Pack 22 has joined the NexTrex Recycling Challenge. The Trex Company has hosted its recycling challenge since 2006 with the goal of educating the public on the importance of plastic film recycling through school and community recycling programs, and in our case, it’s the Scouts.
It’s clearly a recycling initiative, but what exactly is the challenge?
The challenge is to collect a minimum of 1,000 pounds of plastic film within a 12-month period. That's like half a ton! ... and quite literally.
So ... what do the Scouts get?
Bragging rights, duh, and a Trex bench made of recycled hard plastic. On that bench the Scouts will mount an engraving and put the bench somewhere in Pack 22’s hometown of Hampshire; its own and the surrounding towns can admire what their Cub Scouts accomplished and learned about recycling. And you can sit!
Cool! Why are you telling me this?
Because half a ton of the lightest plastic imaginable is not easy to get, which is why the Cub Scouts need your help. NexTrex has kindly given the Scouts collection containers to spread throughout the towns so everybody can contribute to the cause.
Those locations currently include the Hampshire Social, Hampshire’s Village Hall, and Pingree Grove’s Community Center. Just bring your clean plastic bags and film to one of those locations and drop it in.
Oh wait!!! What exactly is the type of plastic the Scouts seek?
They are the ones that cannot otherwise go in the recycle bins: the store drop-offs. The photo shows it best!
Happy holidays, everyone!
p.s., and what a time to collect plastic it is 🎁
