⛵ Get ready for the Pack 41 Rain Gutter Regatta!
During our first Cub Scout meeting, Scouts will construct their own sailboats using foam pool noodles, chopsticks, and paper sails. Once the boats are built and tested, the Scouts will race them head-to-head in two water-filled rain gutters. No motors and no hands allowed. Scouts move their boats by blowing air onto the sails!
A few tips for building a fast boat:
💨 Keep the boat lightweight.
⛵ Make sure the mast stands straight and the sails are smooth.
⚖️ Center the mast so the boat floats evenly.
📏 Keep the sails and mast from rubbing against the sides of the gutter.
🌬️ Use a steady, controlled stream of air aimed at the center of the sails.
🧪 Test your boat and make small adjustments before race time.
Join us Tuesday, September 8, at 6:00 PM at the VFW, 41 Canoe Club Road in Hampden.
Materials will be provided. New and returning families are welcome, and children in grades K–5 are invited to join the fun!
