Kentwood Man Arrested in Internet S*x Crimes Task Force Operation

KENTWOOD (October 31, 2025)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force has arrested a Kentwood man in its latest operation.

Michael Helton, 44, has been booked on 7 counts of Po*******hy Involving Juveniles Under the Age of 13.

Back in August, the TPSO ICAC Unit started investigating the uploading of Child S*xual Assault Material (CSAM) on a social media app. Detectives determined Helton was the individual publishing the content and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

This week, Helton was taken into custody and, after analysis of the multiple devices discovered, booked on the number of charges listed above with additional counts expected.

This activity is part of TPSO’s partnership with Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Office and their ICAC Task Force which includes a collaboration with numerous local law enforcement agencies.

PONCHATOULA (October 29, 2025)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has arrested a father and son following an ongoing narcotics investigation.
Troy “Jack” Jackson, 49, has been booked on one count each of Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Narcotics, Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Controlled Dangerous Substance Violation within a Drug-Free Zone.

Back in August, TPSO Narcotics deputies teamed up with Hammond Police Narcotics officers to investigate a suspected drug dealer in the Ponchatoula area. From that time, the investigation expanded to multiple addresses involving multiple suspects.

On Tuesday, October 28, the TPSO team along with Hammond PD, Ponchatoula PD, DEA, Homeland Security and members of the recently-developed Parish County Line Taskforce, conducted a search warrant at homes on East Rateau Road and North 1st Street, both in the Ponchatoula area.

During the operation, the Jacksons were taken into custody at the home on 1st Street which is located near an elementary school. Detectives recovered a large amount of ma*****na, synthetic ma*****na, or Mojo, and liquid Methadone between the homes and vehicles parked at the homes.

The TPSO would like to thank our partner law enforcement teams for the assist with this extensive investigation which is ongoing with additional arrests expected.

Student Arrested for Bringing Gun, Drugs to School

HAMMOND (October 27, 2025)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has arrested a Hammond teenager for bringing a gun and drugs to school.

The 16-year-old male has been booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on one count each of Carrying of a Firearm by a Student on School Property, Possession of Ma*****na, Firearm-free Zone, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone.

On Monday, October 27, TPSO School Resource Officers (SROs) at Hammond High School were made aware that a student suspected of being under the influence of drugs was found to not only have ma*****na, THC and a v**e in his school bag, but also a handgun which was later learned to be stolen. The student was immediately taken into custody and all illegal items removed from the school. The campus was placed on a brief lockdown during the investigation, but at no time were any students in danger.

Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa Honored with Three Awards

Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa was recognized with three awards at the recent Crime Stoppers USA Conference, earning honors for Print Public Service Announcement, Radio Public Service Announcement, and Community Service for the organization’s Women’s Self-Defense Class.

The organization extends its gratitude to Northshore Media Group for its valued partnership, which made the award-winning print and radio campaigns possible. Special recognition goes to board member Alexis Ducorbier whose vision inspired the creation of the Women’s Self-Defense Class, and to Community Outreach Coordinator Colton Wilson for his outstanding work on the campaign graphics.

“These awards are a testament to the power of collaboration and our community’s shared commitment to safety and empowerment,” said Michelle Gallo, Executive Director.
