Southeastern CKI Giving Greenhouse making kids smile as they learn about the science of growing food and caring for each other and the earth! Like the ORIGINAL post to vote for their Green Schools Challenge People's Choice Award!

“You Make My Heart Grow and Grow” The Kindergarten students at Southeastern Laboratory School love doing their part for the environment and being in the “Green Cub Club”. This year they utilized the school greenhouse by learning about sustainable gardening. Potatoes were rooted by the middle school Green School Club and horticulturalist, John Blackwell, educated the cubs on organic gardening. They spent the day planting and enjoying the fresh air. They were looking forward to harvesting and enjoying their yummy vegetables. When school resumes in August, they will begin planting for the fall so their “hearts will grow and grow” into yummy vegetables!

The Giving Greenhouse is closer to done today, thanks to our club members, friends, and partners, BSU, Hammond Kiwanis, Southeastern Lab School, and Southeastern Louisiana University Sustainability Center!

Funded by the Kiwanis Tomorrow Fund and Hammond Kiwanis, the Giving Greenhouse will provide an opportunity for CKI members to work with Southeastern Lab School students during the school year, Southeastern Math Science Upward Bound in the summer, and Southeastern Sustainability to grow container crops throughout the year as we learn and develop partnerships to give back to our Southeastern community.

Southeastern CKI with LA-MISS-TN CKI clubs gathering at the Bernie Mack Track Stadium for our annual One Day service event!

CKI helped serve meals to riders at the end of the Tour. There were over 350 riders! Thank you to all the riders and volunteers! Entrance fees help fund Kiwanis projects for the year.

Yesterday, Southeastern Louisiana University's Circle K International volunteered at the Tangi Humane Society animal shelter from 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. We walked, bathed, and even played with the animals. For more information at CKI, please email us at [email protected]
