More than half of urban children are born to u***d mothers. Black and brown fathers are disproportionately impacted by poverty, incarceration and unemployment. Many mothers have heroically stepped up to fill the undesired and unsustainable role of father, leader, provider, all while maintaining her position as mother and nurturer. We have weak men attracted to controlling women and strong, indepen
dent women attracted to mamma's boys that can't lead or provide. It's an unbalanced mix that almost always ends in a failed relationship. The biblical structure of a family has been dismantled. The tragedy of a single parent raising a family alone was once looked upon as a problem. Now it's a preference. Now, it's called progress. Now, it's labeled as nonconformity, alternative families or open relationships. Rather than calling it what it is, we give it a label we're comfortable with; A label that doesn't hurt as much. Sadly... a label that doesn't call us to higher levels of living. We've justified our condition in order to cope with our pain. There's no denying the fact that families in urban communities have very specific needs, challenges and struggles. We are not saying that your family has to look a certain way in order to be considered a family. This is not an indictment or intended to condemn. We are simply saying that God has a plan, a blueprint for marriage and family. And even though none of us measure up, non of us are perfect, non of us have arrived, we should all be on the journey, doing all we can to get there. Why, because strong marriages build strong families and strong families build strong communities. This is why the purpose and vision for the Better Family Institute is so vital. The success of our children and health of our communities depends on the fulfillment of our mission. As Christian people, it should be our desire to live out our faith in accordance to God's word and HIS design for our families; no matter the difficulty, the sacrifice and the work it will take to get there. Our hope and prayer is for complete restoration and joy for all families found in the truth of God's word!
