On August 20, 2023, at approximately 2:40 AM, officers from the Hammond Police Department responded to a 911 call in the 3800 block of 176th Pl. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a male individual on the front porch of the residence who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim may have been known by the possible suspect. At the time of the officers’ arrival, the suspect was not present at the scene. There were no reports of shots being fired in the immediate vicinity prior to the incident, Hammond Police stated.

The Hammond Police Department’s Evidence Team, along with detectives swiftly responded to the scene to gather evidence and initiate the investigation. During the initial processing, a number of shell casings were recovered from the area.

The male victim was identified by Hammond Police as 42-year-old Delwin McCloud Jr.

The Hammond Indiana Police Department is actively investigating a string of gas station criminal incidents that have occurred in recent weeks, with the latest occurrence taking place last night.

At approximately 10:15 PM, a light-skinned black or hispanic male in his early 20’s entered the Mobil Gas Station located at 1440 Indianapolis Blvd. armed with a gun. The suspect proceeded to demand money from the registers and additionally instructed the clerks to hand over ci******es. The suspect made off with a white garbage bag containing a quantity of ci******es and an undisclosed amount in cash. Before fleeing the scene on foot, the suspect ordered the clerks to lay on the floor.

“The Hammond Indiana Police Department is working diligently to apprehend the individual responsible for this crime. Investigators are currently reviewing security footage and collecting evidence to aid in the identification and apprehension of the suspect” said Lt. Kellogg.

Police Chief William Short stated, “The safety and security of our citizens is our top priority. We will not tolerate criminal activities that threaten the well-being of our community members.”

The Hammond Indiana Police Department urges residents and local business owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement immediately. By working together, we can help ensure the safety of our community.

With the public's help, we have identified the male in this picture. We thank everyone for your assistance!

We are asking for the public’s help in identifying the male subject in the attached picture. The male removed a bicycle from the open garage of a residence located in the neighborhood near the Highland Middle School on Tuesday August 1st at approximately 5:15pm.
If you know the identity of this male, you are asked to contact Highland Police Officer Tony Kowal by calling 219-838-3184.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Hammond Police are on scene at Kenwood Tap / Latin Bliss located at 6247 Kennedy Ave where one male was shot around 5:30 PM.

The owner of Kenwood Tap stated the owner of Latin Bliss was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery.

A search is ongoing in the immediate area for the suspect that fled.
