Honorably Discharged Louisiana Veterans: Have You Received Your Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal?

The Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal was created to recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of Louisiana's veterans. Each medal is presented in a velvet case and may be worn by the veteran or kept as a keepsake.

The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs is proud to present — or mail — this medal to those who have served our nation with honor and distinction.

We are committed to ensuring every eligible veteran receives this recognition, including (but not limited to):

-Veterans who have not yet received their medal
-Members of a church congregation who are veterans
-Members of Veterans Service Organizations (VFW, American Legion, DAV, and others)
-Employees within a company or organization who are veterans
-Veterans in assisted living or hospice care

Veterans are part of every sector of our society, and we are dedicated to honoring each one. If you or a veteran you know has not yet received their medal, please don't hesitate to reach out.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is proud to announce the 2026–2027 Patriot’s Pen & Voice of Democracy scholarship programs!

📝 This year’s theme:
“What a Veteran Taught Me About America”

These programs give students the opportunity to share their thoughts on patriotism, learn from the sacrifices of our veterans, and compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships.

✔️ Patriot’s Pen – Open to grades 6–8 (essay)
✔️ Voice of Democracy – Open to grades 9–12 (audio essay)

Each year, students across the country compete for millions in scholarships while honoring the values that make our nation strong.

📅 Deadline: October 31, 2026
📍 Submit entries through your local VFW Post
