It was another great day as our class learned more about healthcare in Tangipahoa Parish. We started the day at North Oaks Health System with President and CEO Michele Sutton presenting some impressive numbers and facts about North Oaks. Then we toured their mobile healthcare bus. Next we visited with PAM Specialty Hospital with new CEO Mike Harrell. Lunch included a visit with Acadian Ambulance's Alan Ashley and Florida Parishes Human Services Authority's Dr. Genesa Garofalo Metcalf and Director Richard Kramer. Then we ended the day at Lallie Kemp Medical Center CEO Lisa Bruhl and CFO Chad Thompson. Each visit allowed the class to see first hand the work being performed in our community to help heal and keep our families healthy.

We had another outstanding day learning about the many educational opportunities in Tangipahoa Parish. We started the day at Courtney Christian School. Then we traveled to see how the Tangipahoa Parish School System is meeting the needs of our students at the TPSS Advanced College and Career Magnet Center in Independence. Then we had a wonderful lunch, musical entertainment and tour of Hammond High Magnet School. Then it was off to hear from Dr. Carlson and tour at the Northshore Technical Community College and finishing the day with Dr. Wainwright at Southeastern Louisiana University. Each of these educational institutions play a large role in Tangipahoa Parish.

We are learning more about Criminal Justice in Tangipahoa Parish. We heard from Judge Brian Abels, DA Scott Perrilloux, Sheriff Gerald Sticker and his team and Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center Executive Director Joey Dominick with a tour. Next stop Tangi Jail and the 911 Communications Center.

Our December Class focused on Social Services in Tangipahoa Parish. While it was a heavy day, it was also uplifting for the class to experience the tremendous work performed each day by the Tangipahoa Parish Council on Aging, Options, Our Daily Bread, the Children Advocacy Services and the Methodist Children's Home of Southeast Louisiana. It was a very good day for Leadership Tangipahoa.

Our Leadership Tangipahoa Class discovered a small sample of the Hidden Treasurers in Tangipahoa Parish. Thank you to Tangi Tourism for coordinating a great day for our Leadership Class. We started the day in north Tangipahoa visiting with Nikki and Ryan at Cajun 2 Step to hear about Stalekracker and their success in drawing visitors to Kentwood. Then we visited Donna and Brennan at K5 Saloon at Flory Farm to tour their beautiful Event Center. Next we stopped at the Kentwood Library Branch to hear from Library Director Barry Bradford and role the library plays in Tangipahoa Parish. We traveled to the Oyster House in Amite for lunch and to hear from classmate and Oyster Festival Board Member Trea Coxen on the 50th Anniversary of the Oyster Festival and current Oyster industry in the parish. Then we had a great tour at Global Wildlife Center and met many animals very upclose. Then we ended the day at Gnarly Barley for a brewery tour, tasting and hearing from Tangi Tourism President and CEO Carla Tate. It was another long day but a day filled with information about the local tourism industry.

The Class of 2024-2025 is still making a difference in our community. Today they cooked and prepared 200 pastalaya meals for the Hammond, Ponchatoula, Amite, Kentwood and Independence Council on Aging. They also dared to call Bingo in Hammond. It was a great service and it was great seeing this class still committed to Tangipahoa Parish.

The weather is cool and that means it's time for our Alumni Sippin' Social. We will be meeting at Wiseguys Daiquiris at 14372 W. Wardline Road in Hammond on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm for meeting up with our former classmates. Light Hors D'oeuvres will be provided but beverages are dutch treat. Come out and join us for our Sippin' Social.
