The mission of Leadership Tangipahoa is to improve the quality of life in Tangipahoa Parish by training a diverse group of current and emerging leaders about the interrelationships of community systems.

Graduation for Leadership Tangipahoa was a celebratory occasion as we wrapped up another year. We are looking forward to seeing the positive impact this class makes on Tangipahoa Parish. Special thanks to Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry for being our Keynote Speaker.

What a great way to end the year. Our last trip for the Class was to the Louisiana State Capitol. We were happy Senator Dr. Bill Wheat and Representatives Nicholas Muscarello, Kimberly Coates and Shane Mack were able to carve out time from their busy schedule to spend time with the class and answer questions about legislation pending in the legislature. Some of the highlights of the day included an educational and entertaining presentation on the history of the State Capitol and Gov. Huey Long from Bernard Gouaux, a visit to the Governor's Office with Rep. Muscarello, and lunch at Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser's Pentagon Apartment coordinated by Tangi Tourism's Carla Tate and Dana Monistere. Next up: Graduation on Thursday, June 18 with Guest Speaker Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry.

On our way to the State Capitol to visit with Senators Bill Wheat and Beth Mizell and State Representatives Nicholas Muscarello, Kimberly Coates, Shane Mack and Robby Carter. It’s our last class of the year!

Congratulations to Leadership Tangipahoa alumnus Johnny Chauvin for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. Johnny continues to be part of Leadership Tangipahoa for interviewing our students each month.

It was another great day as our class learned more about healthcare in Tangipahoa Parish. We started the day at North Oaks Health System with President and CEO Michele Sutton presenting some impressive numbers and facts about North Oaks. Then we toured their mobile healthcare bus. Next we visited with PAM Specialty Hospital with new CEO Mike Harrell. Lunch included a visit with Acadian Ambulance's Alan Ashley and Florida Parishes Human Services Authority's Dr. Genesa Garofalo Metcalf and Director Richard Kramer. Then we ended the day at Lallie Kemp Medical Center CEO Lisa Bruhl and CFO Chad Thompson. Each visit allowed the class to see first hand the work being performed in our community to help heal and keep our families healthy.

We had another outstanding day learning about the many educational opportunities in Tangipahoa Parish. We started the day at Courtney Christian School. Then we traveled to see how the Tangipahoa Parish School System is meeting the needs of our students at the TPSS Advanced College and Career Magnet Center in Independence. Then we had a wonderful lunch, musical entertainment and tour of Hammond High Magnet School. Then it was off to hear from Dr. Carlson and tour at the Northshore Technical Community College and finishing the day with Dr. Wainwright at Southeastern Louisiana University. Each of these educational institutions play a large role in Tangipahoa Parish.

We are learning more about Criminal Justice in Tangipahoa Parish. We heard from Judge Brian Abels, DA Scott Perrilloux, Sheriff Gerald Sticker and his team and Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center Executive Director Joey Dominick with a tour. Next stop Tangi Jail and the 911 Communications Center.

Our December Class focused on Social Services in Tangipahoa Parish. While it was a heavy day, it was also uplifting for the class to experience the tremendous work performed each day by the Tangipahoa Parish Council on Aging, Options, Our Daily Bread, the Children Advocacy Services and the Methodist Children's Home of Southeast Louisiana. It was a very good day for Leadership Tangipahoa.
