Congratulations Thomas!!
January Employee Spotlight
For the month of January, we recognize Firefighter Thomas Thompson. A bubbly soul, with a fun personality that keeps a smile on his face even during the hardest adversity. He is always willing to jump in to help on and off the clock, along with keeping a positive attitude, and uplifting others through his array of jokes.
Working in public service for many years along with firefighting, he brings a total of 11 years' experience in the Fire service combined with East Rockingham Fire Department, Cordova Fire Department, and Hamlet Fire Department. Responsibilities at HFD include day to day operations, checking off trucks, answering calls for service, station duties, fire suppression, assist on EMS calls, pump and operate fire trucks, hydrant testing and operations, assisting where needed, and following orders under leadership.
Hamlet Fire Department is very blessed to have Thomas as one of our own, such a meek and humble person, one of the first to always jump in to help anyone. Thomas is the definition of a hard worker with an amazing work ethic. Currently working as a full-time firefighter, obtained his EMT-B, and as an 8100 Search and Rescue Field team member we look forward to what the future holds for Thomas here at Hamlet Fire Department.
“I knew I wanted to work at Hamlet Fire Department simply because of the atmosphere here, and I get to do one of my passions as a job which is helping people. This truly is a family, your home away from home, and at the end of the day although we do work together, what we do outside of our daily job is just as important. To anyone thinking about joining us here whether it be as a volunteer or full-time, I would say this is a great learning experience overall, and it teaches life skills that you can take with you anywhere.”
Thomas credits his dad, a former member of East Rockingham Fire Department, as his motivation and drive for success in this line of work. “My Dad told me even before becoming a volunteer that I needed to get out and learn the roads and showed me different things at an early age regarding the fire service. My Mom and sister are huge supporters of mine and have encouraged me along the way as well. I have a great support system all around, and I am so thankful for that.”
Thomas enjoys spending time with his family, going to Dillion Motor Speedway racing his own cars, along with watching some of his buddies on the track, exploring the great outdoors, and fishing.
A favorite verse that Thomas would like to share is “Blessed are the peacemakers” ~ Matthew 5:9”
