Why study the British Parliament?

America's constitutional system didn't appear in a vacuum.

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, iAdvocate Westminster gives students the opportunity to compare the British parliamentary system with the American constitutional system.

Understanding both helps students gain a richer appreciation of our own form of government and the history behind it.

Today, September 17th, marks 239 years since the signing of the US Constitution.

On this day, after heavy debate and no small amount of ink, our founding fathers concluded the Constitutional Convention and signed the document that has defined the ordering of our government and the rights of "We the People" ever since.

Today we celebrate the freedoms and rights we are privileged to enjoy here in the United States of America.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. We remember all the lives lost, the families who are still grieving, and the first responders and civilian heroes who risked and gave their lives to save as many people as they could.

This solemn anniversary falls in the same year our nation marks its 250th, a milestone that reminds us how much there is to honor and protect.

On days like these, we look toward the future while committing to never forget the past.
