Introducing 2026 Grand Marshal: Barbie Schlotterbeck
Barb (Sloan) Schlotterbeck was born in Hamilton in 1949. Her family moved to Wichita when she was young, but she returned to Hamilton when in the 5th grade. Barbie graduated with the Hamilton High School class of 1968. It was at school where she met Donald Schlotterbeck, class of 1960. Barbie and Be**er were married 42 years before his passing in 2013. Together, they raised daughter, Tammy and son, Michael. Tammy married Jason Grotheer and Michael married Sammy Aleman. Barb was blessed with granddaughters Savannah and Indiana in 2005. Throughout her years in Hamilton, Barbie has done it all! She worked at Iowa Beef for 13 years. Barb, Be**er and family owned Schlotterbeck Machine Shop in Hamilton 42 years before recently closing the doors in 2025. Barb has served the community in many different ways. She has served on many committees over the years, including after prom and homecoming. You can still find her helping with the Hamilton homecoming bonfire each fall! Barb has been involved with the Hamilton alumni committee in some capacity for over 20 years and still found time to assist Eureka is starting up their own alumni group. She has assisted with the âoriginalâ Hamilton Days when it began in the late 80âs and also as a volunteer firefighter. Barbâs servant heart has led her to help many members of the community in different ways. She has helped put kids through school, donated prom dresses, class rings & books. She doesnât hesitate to help to organize funeral dinners, food for those in need or grocery shopping for others. Barbâs little red car can be found getting people to Vo-Tech classes, doctor appointments and more. Barbâs willingness to help has made a difference in so many ways in Hamilton. She said in her spare time she enjoys playing jokes and just spending time with family and friends. Barb says the best part about living in and raising a family in Hamilton has been having her family and friends to help her and gather around her in a time of need. Her generosity and dedication to Hamilton and its people have helped to keep our community strong.
