Effective Tuesday 3/17. All explorer functions, including meetings and ride alongs, are postponed until further notice.

At tonight’s meeting, explorers went over arguably one of the most important parts of the fire service, and that is EMS. Explorers were cleared off on being able to ride the medic units on calls during their observer time. Part of this check off is learning the operations of equipment, where it’s located, and most importantly why we use said equipment.

Tonight’s meeting consisted of explorers crawling through a confined area, being entangled, and then having to find their way back out. This would simulate a tight attic space with a partial collapse. Everyone did great!

Tonight we went over searching in a blacked out environment. Explorers also went over proper search techniques when presented with confined spaces. During the search we contemplated how to treat puppy bites, but we digressed.

Tonight’s meeting consisted of building confidence in our SCBA’s. The air packs were taken apart, hidden throughout a very dark room, and explorers did a quick search to find the pieces. Once the air pack parts were found, they were put back together, and while breathing air, they found their way out of the room.

Last night’s meeting was spent eating pizza, watching “Still Riding” - a documentary on FDNY’s Rescue 1, and relaxing. The explorers have had a busy year with trainings, meetings and the fire academy. We will be taking the rest of the year off. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!

Tonight’s meeting consisted of one person rescues of a down firefighter. We went over 1 man drags, as well as maneuvering a down firefighter up and down steps.

Some trainings over the last few weeks. Explorers went over arial truck ops as well as search and rescue

Last nights training consisted of forcible entry on inward and outward swinging doors. Thanks to those on duty at Station 212 for assistance.
