Updated flyer!

We’re getting very excited for our Northside Native Gardens Walk on Sunday, June 14th from 12-2pm. We’ll walk a pre-planned route stopping at some wonderful examples of native plant landscaping. Our tour guides - and in some cases the resident gardeners themselves - will discuss the native plants that have been incorporated into these yards as well as answer any questions.

We’re also getting excited for our movie night on Tuesday, July 7th at the Northside Tavern in the back room. We’ll be screening “The Extraordinary Caterpillar”, a one hour documentary with some incredible footage of these wonderful creatures.

Both events are free but we do ask that you please RSVP so that we know how many people to expect and so that we may communicate any changes, should they arise. RSVP here: https://www.northsidegreenspace.org/upcoming-events

Many thanks to those who joined us for our final forest restoration event of the spring 2026 season. We swept an extensive area of Parker Woods, pulling small burning bush seedlings and other invasives like honeysuckle, garlic mustard, a few privet, and a single Asian bittersweet seedling. We also took time to enjoy the diversity of native plants in this section of woods. Our next forest restoration event will be Saturday, July 18, pulling Japanese stiltgrass in Buttercup Valley. We also have our Northside Gardens Walk coming up on Sunday, June 14 (register here! https://www.northsidegreenspace.org/event-details/northside-gardens-walk). And…save the date for a special NGI movie night on Tuesday, July 7th. Details to come!

NGI was at Taking Root’s Great Tree Summit this morning! Brendan gave a brief presentation on the Langland Wildway project in Northside that NGI assisted with, while Mary and Sam helped with tabling for the event. We also accepted our board member Bill Berger’s “Johnny Appleseed” award on his behalf, since he was unable to be there this morning.

Dear neighbor,

Consider Joining Us!

Since 1993 Northside Greenspace has been tending to the health of the natural environment of the woods with which our neighborhood is graced. This involves removing non native species; honeysuckle, garlic mustard, burning bush...which then allows for the quiet return of spice bush, paw paw, bluebells, trilliums and so many others. These native plants then support native insects and birds.

Northside Greenspace is an all-volunteer organization that promotes and protects the greenspaces in Northside. This year we pushed back invasive honeysuckle in Parker Woods and held the line against invasives in Buttercup Valley. We hosted 4 guided hikes with naturalist/ educator types. These are casual and informative. We funded Nature Hikes for students of Parker Woods Montessori School to get the next generation in the woods, and we continue to collaborate with other groups in the area. The Langland Wildway Project is an example. Please show your support for our work with your membership.
