Adult leaders who are due for training should complete the full 90-minute Safeguarding Youth Training, not the refresher.

Letting SYT expire can mean extra paperwork, reapplying to your position, delays getting back on your unit roster, and possible issues for summer camp attendance.

Please check your status and take care of it now.

Must be completed by the end of the day, May 31.

Congratulations to Our newest Troop 33 Order of the Arrow Members!

This weekend at the Order of the Arrow Ordeal at Ge**er Scout Reservation, Troop 33 was well represented through service, leadership, and dedication.

We are proud to congratulate Ethan Brown, Ben LeFever, Bryce Lubinski, and Assistant Scoutmaster Jason Brown, who successfully completed their Ordeal and were inducted as new members of the Order of the Arrow.

Supporting them throughout the weekend were Scoutmaster Dylan Weerstra, Assistant Scoutmaster Quinn Drew, and Scout Mason King, all current OA members who helped make the experience a success.

A congratulations also goes to Mason King, who completed his Brotherhood Membership, taking the next step in his OA journey and reaffirming his commitment to the principles of brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service.

Throughout the weekend, our Scouts and leaders participated in meaningful service projects, worked hard, built friendships, and proudly represented Troop 33.

Adding to an already busy weekend, all four Scouts participating in the Ordeal are also members of the 2026 Mackinac Island Honor Guard. Because of their commitment to Honor Guard training, Troop 33 departed late Saturday evening following the ceremonies so the Scouts could attend their third and final shakedown with Troop 114 early Sunday morning. It made for a short night, but their dedication and perseverance were on full display.

We are incredibly proud of these Scouts and leaders for their commitment to service, leadership, and Scouting. Please join us in congratulating them on these outstanding accomplishments!

On May 22, 2026, President Donald Trump announced that Welles Crowther, a former Scout known as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Crowther was only 24 years old on September 11, 2001, when he repeatedly entered the smoke-filled stairwells of the South Tower to help guide others to safety. Survivors later remembered a young man wearing a red bandana over his face who helped lead them down. He is credited with saving as many as 18 people before losing his life when the tower collapsed.

Welles’ story is a powerful reminder of what the Scouting program is built to develop in young people: character, courage, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to helping others.

Today, his red bandana is preserved at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum as a lasting symbol of service above self.
