In January, we lost someone who was not only a dear friend but also a true pillar of the Charye community—our good friend and village leader, Odilon Estime. His passing was unexpected, and it leaves a profound void, both for his family and the entire community he served with such dedication.
Odilon was more than just a leader—he was a rock, a source of strength and vision for his people. Through his tireless work and God-given vision, he transformed a rural part of Haiti. Where there once was no school, now there is one, all thanks to his unwavering commitment. And that’s just one example of the many ways he made a difference—his impact reached far beyond what we even saw.
This is an immense loss for the community, and our prayers are with his family first and foremost. But we also pray for the community, as they now carry the weight of filling the gap left by someone irreplaceable. While we can’t replace a man like Odilon, we trust that because of the foundation he laid, someone will rise to carry the torch and continue the work he began.
When I reflect on Odilon's life, I’m reminded of Hebrews 12:1:
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith."
What an incredible legacy Odilon leaves behind. He ran the race with endurance and faithfulness, and now, we know he watches over us as one of the great witnesses. May we honor his memory by continuing the work he began and carrying his vision forward.
We miss you friend!
