t was good talking to you this morning and sharing with you mutual goals and aspirations regarding the youth of Hamilton.
As we discussed, The Jackson Family Scholarship will provide up to $10,000 dollars net of scholarships to deserving student(s) to help defray educational costs during their first year of college. The scholarship is designed to provide valuable initial support to African American High School Seniors from Hamilton’s 2nd or 4th Wards desiring to pursue a baccalaureate degree from an accredited/certified college or university. Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4 point scale, submit an essay and two letters of recommendation and otherwise meet the attached eligibility requirements to apply (please see attached Flyer and/or Website for further info and to apply).
Note: of those letters of recommendation, one is required to be an academic recommendation while the other is to be a letter of recommendation from a community leader doing work in Hamilton's 2nd or 4th Ward. In other words, persons like yourself who have provided leadership in Hamilton for decades.
Given this is our initial launch (1st year) of the scholarship we sincerely need help in reaching prospective students. The initial submission deadline was to coincide with MLK Day this year. However, due to low applicant numbers, we have now extended the deadline until February 22, 2026 and, at your suggestion, may look into possibly extending to the end of February. In the meantime, To we are extremely prayerful that you can assist us in maximizing awareness and participation of this opportunity in the hopes further students reply way before the deadline. Please feel free to share the information herein to the High School, in newsletters, bulletin boards, announcements and especially with other community groups such as the NAACP and churches.
The undeniable truth is, our family, the Jackson Family, was nurtured through this community. And this is one way in which we are striving to give back. So if additional materials or information is needed we would be more than happy to provide it. If conference calls or in person visits to meet with community leaders is necessary, then we can work on scheduling such meetings. If a call is desired, please feel free to share my number.
Finally, thank you for your time and I thank all who help us with this for their consideration and support in helping students access this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Kenya-Taray Delemore, MPA, J.D.
