MAPS Media Institute MAPS offers FREE-of-charge media arts classes, taught by professionals, for 8th to 12th graders.

About MAPS Media Institute (“MAPS”)

Established in 2004 in Ravalli County, MAPS Media Institute (“MAPS”) is an Emmy-award-winning Montana-based educational nonprofit. Mission: “to empower, inspire, and prepare Montana’s future generations for success through professional media arts instruction, engaging community service, and compassionate mentoring.”

ign, Music Production, New Technologies, Photojournalism, Podcast. Free-of-Charge: MAPS classes/workshops are free for all youth and families. Target Audiences: (a) youth in 8th through 12th grade and (b) young adults 18 to 24. Program Models:

•Year Round Afterschool & Summer Programs for youth in grades 8-12.
• MAPS - Ravalli County (Hamilton): est. 2004
• MAPS - Lewis & Clark County (Helena): est. 2019

Seasonal Afterschool Program:

• MAPS - Flathead Reservation/Lake County: est. 2017

MAPS Media Lab:

MAPS Media Lab is our statewide educational outreach program in which MAPS artist-educators-mentors bring professional equipment and curriculums to tribal communities and rural towns to facilitate specifically designed media arts workshops with youth. Client Based Projects:

Client Based Projects provide real-world learning opportunities for MAPS students to share their skills and creative talents on media projects for nonprofits and small businesses that work to make Montana healthier, stronger, and connected.

MAPS program sites are closed November 24-28 so our staff and students can enjoy the holiday week.

Our admin office will be open, but studios are taking a well-earned break.

Two MAPS youth-produced films are nominated for the 2025 National Student Production Awards, and winners will be announced during the national livestream.

Fort Belknap Indian Community members share their experiences with water scarcity and their commitment to water security for future generations. On November 4, MAPS Audio Production students toured Helena Civic TV, thanks to Jeannie McLean-Warden (Senior Videographer/Editor) and Kirsten Faubian (Executive Director).

They produced and starred in their own mock cable access show, impressing everyone with their skills while learning new equipment and lingo. Watch out, world, as these young producers, engineers, and on-screen stars are bringing creativity, passion, and serious talent!
