CAC hosted another powerful and uplifting event for our community on Thursday, May 8, a cookout and movie night at the Fitton Center. It was a great opportunity for food and fellowship, hearing inspiring journeys of young men in our community (Marcus Oliver & Adam Pankey) who succeeded and returned to give back, and a great movie - Woodlawn - that tied faith, community and football directly back to our CAC mission of keeping our community safe by inspiring positive paths for our young men and women.

The Community Action Committee (CAC) is reaching out to the Community to meet on Thursday evening, October 27, at 6 pm at Bailey Square to pray for our Community and families affected by the gun violence in our Community.

On Tuesday night, two young men lost their lives from senseless gun violence, and as a Community, we need to come together to pray.

We wanted to share news of a concerning incident with a positive outcome from this afternoon. Officers observed Darryl Wallace, a 30 Gang member, in a hand-to-hand drug deal at Front and Pershing.

They attempted to stop him and he fled on foot. After a short foot chase he was tackled to the ground. As the officers attempted to control him, he tried to grab a loaded firearm he was carrying. Fortunately, the two officers were able to gain control of the gun and subject.

The handgun was a loaded G***k 9mm with an extended 30 round magazine. He also had over 50 grams of Crack Co***ne, 12 grams of Fentanyl and $3,550 in cash on his person.

As you can imagine, this could have ended tragically. These officers did a remarkable job of safely getting a gun-carrying gang member and a lot of dangerous drugs off our streets. We’re very fortunate no one was hurt.

CAC's challenge is to continue our efforts in the community so that fewer of these high-risk encounters have to take place.

Let us continue to keep our community in prayer and our efforts focused on the important work ahead of us.

Thank you all!
